The whole job is calling people to get them to show up for a meeting with you based on their interest in a certain product/benefit we gave away at “no cost” then at the end of the presentation we educated them on life insurance and expect them to buy. You are taught to basically never take no for an answer. When you call these people, they have no idea that they’ll be talking about life insurance at the end. Upline managers teach you to tell the people in the initial phone call the meeting is super short, usually 15 minutes but presentations on average took anywhere from 45 mins to 2 hours. The benefits offered are somewhat valuable, but the entire process in which we went about delivering them to people was wrong. I’m happy at the experience I gained and sales training I received, but I’m sad I abandoned my values for so long. Also, the SGA was barely ever there, he made all of this upper level managers handle everything because he was always on vacation or out of the office doing things, which made it hard to have any sort of relationship with him or feel like you had his support. They were just trying to get as many people in the door as possible instead of trying to nurture the agents and have them grow steadily at a slower pace. They literally were just throwing sh*t at the wall and seeing if it stuck. There was no patience. Also, to top it off, they pressure everyone to work 7 days a week. 8am-9pm with a short break during the day. I would literally be so paranoid and anxious when I took time off (some Saturdays and Sundays) that my blood pressure would get so high I almost had to go to the hospital- this happened numerous times. The stress level is insane and it’s just expected that you go through this for 10 years and then you can relax when you’re fully vested.
