They treat you like an employee in terms of requiring some of the dumbest zoom calls and training I’ve ever experienced but you’re an independent contractor. You don’t have a boss…until you realize that you do bc they control your leads. Even if it’s just social pressure, it’s required bc they won’t release you from training to make money on your own until you follow their schedule. The PlanetAltig website (one of a gazillion websites you’re supposed to keep track of) is a flashy disaster and it’s impossible to know which resources are important or where to find them. They’ll give you some leads but they’re usually old (~2 years!!) and heavily recycled. My MGA was actually upfront about not assigning good leads (duplicates, old, bad number, etc). You can really only make money on referrals but those are difficult to get from bad leads! You won’t make money unless you recruit people who can afford to get licensed and have a computer that can run all the software in addition to a constant zoom call. They act like they spend so much on training but this doesn’t cost them of a dime!
They say it’s not cold calling but it’s cold calling. If someone signs up for something they think is free and your entire job is to upsell them supplemental life insurance, that’s a cold call! They act like you can’t sign up for these benefits without being in a union or recommended by someone who is but that’s not true. You can literally go to their website and it’ll put you in touch with an agent. They’re extremely dishonest about this.
They’ll blame it on your work ethic or sales ability but it’s a predatory business structure so don’t let them take advantage of you! Don’t accept apologies or excuses or put-downs…just be polite and move on to something better.
