Toxic, toxic, toxic environment heavy micromanagement in the entire organization Inflexible job setting (depending on business unit) No career advancement Heavily bureaucratic environment (assertive NOT democratic)

Pros

The AMA has a lot of money for being a non-profit. Offices are swanky, salaries are way high and they have decent perks. The AMA also has a lot of bright people who really care about social impact work and it can be really inspiring.

Cons

The CIO is terrible and technology is way underinvested. The COO is way past retirement and adds very little value. For an organization that should be physician centric, they do NOTHING that actually improves the lives of physicians. There are way too many Directors - too many chiefs not enough Indians.

Cons

Terrible company culture, very slow moving. extremely bureaucratic. Way behind on the times. Senior management is very out of touch with employees. Impossible to learn anything because of the silos.
