Pros

Being employed at American Water is a fun, challenging job working with awesome people who are dedicated to providing safe drinking water. The pay is above average, Benefits are acceptable. Corporate culture is focused on safety.

Cons

Well now the cons... Upper Management appears less focused on safe drinking water. There is way more focus on how the work force can be "empowered" so that Office Employees are expected to do the work that required two or three people previously. With almost yearly department reorganizations" every time a new executive is brought in is straining employee morale. Company appears to have lost focus on employees and is more focused on Stock price and profits.

Pros

Good pay, vacation and 401K.

Cons

No loyalty to employees. Constantly "reorganizing" departments and laying off employees only to turn around and re-open the position 6 months later.
