Pros

I've been here for years and not a day goes by that I’m not amazed at the know-how of my co-workers at AmericanEagle.com. It’s a pleasure to surround myself with people who know the industry inside and out. We are recognized often on respected publications - most recently BuiltinChicago.org as one of the Top 100 Digital Companies in Chicago. - Great people -Everyones always willing to help out -Awesome feeling working on a lot of sites that win national awards -We are constantly doing better and bigger things and its amazing to see where the company has gone in just a couple years -Upper management definitely acknowledges your hard work and the work of others quite often - Really good benefits and incentives -

Cons

Being a programmer can be stressful at times in a fast pace environment. We are also getting involved in a lot other programming languages and platforms so I can see where other people could get stressed out overcoming the learning curves that naturally come with new technologies. I wouldn't say this is a Con per say but I can see how some other people may think so.

Pros

Family owned company so they are open to hiring people who don't have much experience in the web development field (at least for account management and project management) assuming they are capable and have a good attitude. There is a wide variety of projects, a lot of experienced gained, and given the size of the company (<200) it's relatively easy to be noticed for good work. I would only recommend it if someone is desperate for a job, and for experience, and I would tell them to move elsewhere as quickly as possible. Nearby restaurants and town are really great for lunch break.

Cons

The project load is unsustainable and impossible to keep up with given the complexity of sites and time required to learn the CMS etc (although some divisions have more complicated sites than others). Compared to other companies the project load is 3x more and projects are generally very rushed and past the due date which makes for strained client relations. Deadlines are promised without any realistic estimation of projects in the pipeline. Management is approachable but not accessible due to how busy they are with their own projects. Resource management estimates are a black hole and impossible to estimate accuratelyLong hours, pay is really low, office space is depressing. The computer and resources provided are old and slow. People are generally unhappy. Also they seem to have a cheap labor model, wherein they hire most people out of college with little experience, so the blind are leading the blind in a lot of ways. Any improvements regarding management and mentoring of younger employees seems to be wishful thinking as it take years to transition to the reorganization they've promised.

Pros

good programming exercise if you get lucky exposure to the clients pretty solid development patterns & practices work there only if you're fresh out of college and you need 2-3 years of experience on your resume

Cons

sweatshop underpaid management can't keep the word they gave (even the one in writing) poor benefits micromanagement - most of people are on salary, but still you have to put every 5 minutes on your timecards. yes they have clock-in, clock-out. it's big deal when you late, but no one cares when you stay 'till midnight (no overtime of course) every few months they hire new "star" which usually ends up in bigger mess minimal chances to get promoted raises are minimal (if any), and probably you won't get any bonus
