Pros

Benefits such as vacation time and 401k match make it the best around. Mission is to serve patients and improve their lives provides a "True North" for why we are at work each day.

Cons

Heavy workload, long hours, and soon no assigned work spaces unless you an executive director or above. For Directors and below the company will provide a cubby for your things.

Pros

Everything you can think of that's good and that an employer should have, this company has in abundance. Except, that is, the things mentioned in the Cons section below. It is a great pity, as otherwise it would be a dream workplace for many - just as it was about ten years ago. I recommend this company only if you want to add Amgen experience in your resume and enjoy it for as long as you are given a chance to, not if you plan to stay there long-term.

Cons

Not promoting all people who deserve it. Low transparency of senior management. And did I mention layoffs? Actually, there have been three of them: 2007, 2011, and 2014-15 (still in progress). It is a terribly stressing situation, waiting to see if the axe is going to fall; whoever works there right now shouldn't be envied - at least not that much. Again, recommended only if you want to add Amgen experience in your resume, not if you plan to stay there for a long time.

Pros

Large respected biotech company with an incredible history of success and innovation. Good opportunity for experience with limitations. You can learn how a biotech company works as well as how not to run a company. You can learn a great deal here but mostly you will learn what not to do when you start up your own company. Probably good for someone early in their career just wanting to put a biotech notch on their plate.

Cons

Lost innovative spirit due to CEOs desire for Wall street gains. Poor insight. Financially unsteady. Likely to split or get bought out in 2 years. Rigid glass ceiling. Old paradigms of thought that are oddly unbalanced with an arrogance of belief in historical reputation and complacency. All the good people are gone or leaving. If you are a physician and want to be treated like a grad student or intern, this is the place for you. If you like fulfilling tasks and checklists without thinking, this is the place for you. If you are innovative and creative, bottle up your mind and stop thinking if you want to work here. This company is all about processes and talking with little action. It takes 18-36 months to make a decision - a poor sign of current leadership and management and a reflection of Amgen's expected demise. It does not move or think fast enough for the highly intelligent. If you simply want to work like a dog at your supervisor's beck and call and expectations, by all means feel free to apply.
