Jobs Are Moving Offshore

Pros

Pay is better than average, and the hours are flexible, plus many are allowed to work from home, when necessary

Cons

Because they fancy themselves a "health and beauty" company, Amway is very focused on hiring "young leaders," which generally means young and beautiful interns, and advancing them quickly. They are also outsourcing jobs as much as possible, demoting older, more knowledgeable workers, closing domestic plants and moving manufacturing offshore, and buying already-made products from other companies. There have been layoffs approximately every 18 months, and I suspect the round in Feb 2020 won't be the last. Morale is extremely low.

Wonderful people, Challenging Organization

Pros

Great people; love their company and the Grand Rapids area; devoted to Amway's founding values of self-determination, opportunity, etc. Great place if you want to stay and grow with the same company for many years; everyone is open to the idea that you'll switch roles and teams more than once for the sake of personal growth and satisfaction. Great place to feel like you are cared about by the company.

Cons

Frequent reorganization as well as seemingly from-the-hip organization means strategic change is difficult to accomplish; as a result, many inefficiencies within the company. Often vulnerable to "death by meeting" but that's counterbalanced by good people wanting to achieve good outcomes. One of the biggest employers in GR by a longshot, which means competition - the healthy kind that would keep the company continually improving and testing itself - is in short supply. Also a bit of a disconnect between how employees perceive the company and how "the rest of the world" perceives the company. Can make some projects less than effective as a result.

Pros

Pay well and good work/life balance

Cons

Takes forever to get them moving. Lots of good ole boys who are very comfortable doing it the same way they've always done it.
