Pros

- Gain experience in multiple departments like Hematology, PCR, Clinical Chemistry etc, everything you'd do in a human lab. - Overnight differential - No patients, or customers - No uniforms

Cons

- Truly terrible way of running Overview: Someone in the corporate aspect of Antech made a horrible deal that is a large contributor to why Antech Atlanta runs so terribly. Technicians must work to the BONE to push out samples by a certain time, or the company loses 100% of the profit. Why would you make a business model (i don't know business jargon, I'm literally a scientist) where majority of the profit is risked even though you still have to pay/ use materials and workers. Because of this they are EXTREMELY cheap, pay you the least possible, and hire the least amount of people possible and stretch them thin to do the work. This leads to overworking, quality control issues, and most importantly to Antech, lost profit if the production cut off is not made. Pay: Not even close to the worth of the work, you MIGHT get $18, but you will absolutely prep or analyze 300 samples. Safety: Speaking of quality control, there is barely any care for safety hazards and PPE. There is a hema tech that doesn't even wear gloves when handling blood. They only wear gloves when a QC analyst is physically present. Even the machines are overworked. The hematology analyzers self clean but spew the remaining blood of the hundreds of samples Antech profits from you running. Disgusting. Despite being severely understaffed, there aren't even enough lab coats for everyone throughout the week. They are supposed to be washed once a week, but all of them don't make it to the bin, and if they get dirty before wash day, you're out of luck. We end up sharing between shifts or simply not wearing one. The disposable ones are so thin you might as well show up in lace. Expectations: Warehouse, truly just pushing samples and results. If you have enough of a science background you may be able to understand enough of what you're doing to give quality results and add the skill to your resume, but if not you're really just pushing samples. Retention: Turn over is so high the more intense departments clean house every 3-5 months. Workers don't feel their efforts are reciprocated in pay or lab management. Team morale is under the ground. If you do make it to a year the raise is one measly dollar. Also, if you are written up for any reason during the entire year, you cannot be promoted according to policy. Leaving: 2-week notice or you cannot work at another Antech/ Mars, but honestly, why would you want that. But maybe other Antech labs are different. PLEASE READ PLEASE READ: Parasitology is feces! Apparently potential hires are being told that the department tests blood urine and feces as if it's every once in a while. Parasitology at Antech is STRICTLY FECES, sure some fecal tests are testing for blood such as an occult blood, that's still stool. 1,000 samples of stool daily.

Pros

Consistent 40 hours weekly. Hybrid work from home 3 days per week.

Cons

Abysmal pay well below all averages national and local. $21.50 starting pay, annual raises don't exceed 3% (40-70 cents). Management is fractured between departments, Toxic individuals with decades tenure are not held accountable for unprofessional workplace practice. This is in no way a meritocracy, individuals who do the bare minimum slide by while high performers are the only individuals held accountable with a disproportionate workload. No room for promotion or career growth, after months of technical challenges we received $10 gift cards as a thank you, Constant reminders of record profits for Mars corporation while the entire department is paid below the average for the state of California. I worked with some direct supervisors who I believe to be legitimately good people. I quickly came to learn they essentially have no power, to promote, to give raises, or to make structural changes. This department is the corporate untouchables and constantly reminded of their place at the bottom of the food chain.

Pros

Vet discounts for pet checkups. Probably the only good thing here.

Cons

1. High expectation but low pay - company demands high performance yet the pay doesn't match the expectations and the pressure/stress they put their employees. - a billion dollar company that only cares about their image/performance but doesn't care about their employees. - Principles in Action doesn't mean any thing no one really cares within the company their only drivers are top performance yet they don't do anything to stir or reward employees. 2. Benefits not comparable to most companies as big as Antech. - 401k match is lower than avg. - sick leave is 5 days a year and you can't even carry over sick leave so if you get sick with a flu and use your leave you will then be endangered to be written up because of attendance. It may not look like it from high level overview but this speaks highly how much they look at their employees. Imagine working hard and being pushed to peform, getting sick & then being written up for it. While some employees in the company have unlimited PTO, regular employees only have 5 days a year for sick leave and can't even carry over any left over. So You cannot carry over benefit that you EARNED but if you get sick and use it you will get written up yet they expect you to PERFORM all the time. 3. Pay - Low pay (sure there are differential but you only get base pay for PTO and sick so your pay is significantly less when you don't work). - they don't like to pay overtime. So if there is large volume on Monday and less volume on another day they will always make sure to balance it out to 40 hrs or even less. It doesn't matter if you moved your personal schedule around to accommodate the need for OT that day (got a sitter or moved another appt) they just simply don't care about their employees time, commitment & effort to the company. This is so sad because no one stays over their schedule to get paid the same if someone commits to work over what is scheduled is because they have a need and working OT affects work life balance, don't just disregard your employees and don't just comps the hours pay them what is right. - if you work holiday they forget to pay you holiday premium pay. This happened on a recent holiday, New Year's Day most employees were on holiday but there were a few that came in so that others can stay home so those employees didn't celebrate their holiday and the company pays them by not calculating their pay right and shorting their employees. To top it all off Payroll caught the error and said they will make the correction on a specific date the specific date came and passed by and still no correction pay made and payroll just says -it will be paid later. Again company has high expectations to their employees yet fails to meet the standard regulations for their employees. I guess employees can just go tell their bills and creditors - we will pay later since our employer shorted our pay check. Unacceptable and I believe illegal practice. 4. Leaders are horrible - I have not even heard one pleasant greeting or even email from a leader yet we sure would get notifications of exams, surveys, audits, mistakes, low performance, tours etc so we have to make sure everything is clean and neat and that we're performing excellent. If you look at all those things they highlight they are all things that would make the company look good because that's their goal to look good but don't really care about their employees. Morale is down, people are unhappy, mgmt don't even respond to employees when being addressed because employees are beneath them. They can visit the lab for tours yet they can't talk or say hi to employees? 5 favoritism - time and time again we hear about favoritism. That person is highly favored so don't mess with them or don't fail them etc etc. favoritism is a form of discrimination just unacceptable.
