Good ole boy club

Pros

This is an environment where you can dare to be different . Its a place where the unconventional is celebrated and where innovation is appreciated (by the students). However, there is a fine line between accreditation and education and we try to stay within the bounds that maintain accreditation.

Cons

This is not a place of enlightened thinking or management. Its the same old crowd, packaged and repackaged in restructure after restructure. They do not promote from within, they allow do play favorites and hire their buddies instead of the best qualified applicants. There is really no way to get ahead here unless you snuggle up to someone or belong to that good ole white boy club that they profess they are not . . . ahhh, me dost think they protest too much.

Pros

Pay is OK if you are only seeking a paycheck - no job gratification here

Cons

Its not a great place to work unless you are ok with being invisible and unrecognized. Higher-ups and full timers are mostly just trying to scramble for their own job security and higher salaries. In reality, almost all faculty are adjuncts (part-time) to avoid paying them benefits. There are no opportunities for advancement or to increase hours unless you are someone's buddy. They just unionized, but seems like unless you are full-time, there is not much advocacy in that either.

Outstanding students, autonomy, flexible schedule, get paid to teach and research subjects I love

Cons

Very low pay, no way to negotiate higher pay, non-transparent administration, inequitable salaries, low adjunct pay
