Pros

-Lots to learn in the medical devices industry. -Everything is in-house so it's a good learning experience, but having everything in So.Cal leads to employees not getting paid enough. -Colleagues usually are nice and helpful. -Cafe food is subsidized for employees. -Lots of sports opportunities for employees who want to engage.

Cons

-Below median pay, probably the worst pay in the area for the industry. -Upper Management is not transparent at all. Only an illusion of "open-door policy" -The company-wide slow movement is a pain to deal with, especially when you consider that a majority of the work is not innovation or design but just writing documents. -Redundant, repetitive feedback from middle management just slows things down massively. -Absolutely no training or onboarding for newer people. Everyone is of the opinion that its better to waste time doing something wrong multiple times and receiving feedback instead of having resources set up to teach newer people everything necessary to do a good job the very first time. -Middle management finds scapegoats to mess with and teach everyone a lesson in terms of establishing power over a group. -The company is still in the stone age, everything is done on paper. Another example is that there are only desktops and no laptops for a majority of the workforce. No flexible work hours, or work from home. -The 401K match might as well have not existed, it's laughable at effectively 1%. Sick days are average and paid vacations are average. -No recognition for achievements or hard work, but quick to criticize mistakes. -Senior Management is filled with family, not even subtle about the nepotism. -Large attrition rate, which is self-explanatory after having worked here for the below-average pay and lack of direction.

Pros

-A good place for recent graduates to get experience. There are a lot of resources at the company to get your feet wet in the industry. -Great health insurance with low employee cost. -Great work culture. It's a good mix of work and play. My team goes out for lunch every Friday, and will occasionally plan weekend trips and events. -Good work/life balance. Hours are typically 8-5 and no one expects you to stay after 5pm.

Cons

-Inexperienced middle management. Most are young and started their first jobs with this company. Middle management is not held accountable for any decisions made. When things go awry, the finger pointing typically lands at the individual engineers that wrote the protocols and reports, regardless of if they contributed to any decision making. Be prepared to defend yourself, even if management approved your documents. -Engineers are encouraged to take the lead or voice their concerns, but any actual concerns are often dismissed with "this is how we've always done it". If your approach does not line up with what management had in mind, it is incredibly difficult if not impossible to get approval. -When issues arise, the default solution is to justify why things are still okay, rather than try to fix the problem at its root. As a result, some issues can linger for years and go through multiple engineers (due to the high turnover). The newly assigned engineers are typically recent graduates with no experience, resulting in incorrect/inadequate solutions that never fully address the issues or cause more problems. -Nepotism. This company is privately held, and upper management are either family or friends. -No work from home flexibility.

Pros

No Pros... I have been employed at Applied for a little over year and can't find anything positive to share about my experience.

Cons

DO NOT BELIEVE ALL THE FAKE POSITIVE POSTS IN 2020. Those posts are only internal company folks, that are trying to boost the company's scores. In March 2020, a memo went out to all employees stating that we were all taking a 12-18% salary cut and that Senior Management would be taking a 50% salary cut. In addition, 401k matching was being suspended. First of all, I seriously doubt that Senior Management took a 50% salary reduction. I know that I took a 15%-18% salary reduction. It's now almost 4 months later and there is no date or answer as to when we will get back to normal salary levels. I have asked everyone in the company minus the President when we can expect to get our salaries back. No answers and lack of transparency. Everything is hush-hush around here. We all have families and budgets. We have expenses and need to plan for the rest of the year. I might need to get a second job to account for this salary cut. I just want an answer if we will be normalized soon or if I will need to plan an alternative for my family. This is very upsetting because they are still hiring new non-essential senior roles with our salary cut money. Just last week, there were multiple new employee announcements. This is dishonest and very unethical! How can you TRUST any employer that snatches your hard earned money and leverages it, to hire new employees. Clearly, Applied Medical is a very unethical and not the family oriented company that it tries to portray. Other things that I have seen or experienced, most employees are very very green and in most cases, these employees only have consulting experience and/or have no real corporate experience. This is their first job out of college. Not to be disrespectful, but most employees in IT are Indians and are hired on worker's visa. This is a bit shocking considering that there is plenty of talent on the street and Applied Medical wouldn't have to spend ~$6-7K for each worker's visa renewal every year. This is not the right way to promote a company's culture or growth. The company doesn't want to improve or change for the better. It's just more of the same. We constantly try to create everything from systems, processes, to devices but always fail because management doesn't listen to their experienced employees. Take my advise DO NOT CONSIDER APPLIED MEDICAL as a potential employer. It's been a terrible experience for me and my family. There is no career path and Senior Management has no clue since many of them have no other experience other than at Applied Medical experience. Very sad. Newly graduated people, get your experience somewhere else and don't fall in this sand trap. Experienced and seasoned people, don't think that you're any different than me. This place will run you to the ground, physically and emotionally. You will work hard and never smart at Applied Medical. The systems and processes will never catchup.
