A Dickensian sweatshop for our times

Pros

Ample opportunities to work remote; remote worker setup is comprehensive and well thought out. Pay and benefits are decent for the industry. Good salary (but read on to decide whether it's worth it to you), prompt payment/direct deposit. Medical benefits effective on the first day of employment. 401k matching percentage was below average, with an outdated vesting schedule (most companies now offer 100% vested at the time of contribution). Many wonderful colleagues, and the line managers seem to care about their staff. On the whole, the clients were pleasant to work with, too.

Cons

Ridiculous workload/hours, fed by a mountain of needless paperwork. A glut of internal meetings, most of questionable value. Unrealistic utilization targets accompanied by continuous pressure to bill the clients for nearly every activity. Bullying and intimidation from the C-suite.

Applied Systems Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide your point of view on Applied. We always appreciate receiving both positive as well as constructive feedback. The positives you call out generally align well with what we hear from TeamApplied employees across the organization about our work environment . It is clear however that you had concerns with your localized work area as well as a perception very much inconsistent with the hard earned, positive reputation (internal and external) of our senior leadership team. Team Applied employees are encouraged to confidentially come forward if and when any such concerns develop- and even as a former employee, I would welcome your contacting me directly to discuss your experience while with us.

Pros

An industry leader with top-notch technology and innovative platforms delivering agency management systems, now with Google’s investment arm which purchased a minority stake in Applied Systems last year, so greater things are yet to come! This role is entirely remote working alongside a dedicated team of educators across the country. If you like to travel coast-to-coast and becoming a road warrior is your thing, and you like to meet people and you care to adventure to places you've never been before this job is for you!

Cons

Travelling Mon-Fri 3 weeks + a month coast-to-coast, sometimes on Sundays, and/or on State and Federal Holidays, then working virtual once a week from home. This is a salaried role so there is no add'l pay for overtime, or add'l compensation /make-up for long days travelling across the country or any add'l pay for travelling on Sundays/Holidays. The "Work/Life Balance" is barely possible, depending on your lifestyle, age and your tolerance.

The Workload is Incredible

Pros

So my title is, the workload is incredible. This can be literally taken both ways. In my department there is a wide range of work to be done and much of it is fairly enjoyable, with a few tasks so frustrating that slamming your fingers in a drawer would be less painful. But in general, the baseline work is ok. Your clients are generally very pleasant to work with and helping them get live with their products is rewarding. Depending on your manager, you may have a wonderful internal experience as well.

Cons

The con is, the workload is incredible. I'm talking about having hundreds and hundreds of accounts piling up, in addition to new sales needing their stuff RIGHT NOW, and product updates coming out so quickly you'd swear the last batch of new features came out only a month ago. They probably did! This means your supporting job workflows are quickly out of date, and you have no documentation on what to do, or updated documentation to hand out to your clients. The department I'm part of, and lets be honest, most departments at this company are vastly, vastly understaffed. It's a bad cycle, you may have 10 people but need 30 people. Those 10 people doing the work of several can't take it and leave. Repeatedly. You may receive emails every few months of all the people leaving. They want people to stay, naturally, but who wants to do the work of 2, or 3, or more people, all day, every day? Through your lunch, or even at night, and on weekends? And depending on your manager, you may not have a good time, at all. Might get told you should feel stressed, that the CEO himself doesn't want to hear about the departments terrible numbers, or blustered one way or another.
