Pros

Might be a good place for a coder to get a start.

Cons

What you have here is a holding company that buys up small software companies. They then try to keep the service contracts active as long as possible by using strong arm tactics on existing customers. There is no software development going on here. Just band-aids and antibiotic to keep the infection to a minimum. It's really a sad story. There is no leadership and no direction. But why would you need that in this model? It's all dollars and cents to Vista Equity Partners. No more. No less.

Pros

Trust is given out easily here and I experienced no micro managing in any of my years here. They do manage by objectives which is nice if you like to be given freedom to do tasks your way (this obviously doesn't apply to all positions). Work from home is common in the office and I also think most people are genuinely nice. Use this place to get experience and move on with your career.

Cons

There are probably more downsides here than up unfortunately. The best talent flows out of the company as opposed to staying. Pay is also extremely low and you will probably be low balled if you negotiate salary. You will also be at risk of being outsourced at all times, accounting was outsourced to Poland and pretty much all US developers to India. This company is definitely part of the American outsourcing problem. For most product lines the technology is old, but for the ones that see immense competition, improvements have been made. I would not advise a friend to work here unless it was to attain some professional level experience straight out of college.

Aptean is a global company with customers around the world. As such, we need to support our customers where they are and hire employees globally. We have two established Centers of Excellence in both Poland and India. These teams are key members of our success; the employees in these centers support our strategy and supplement the capability and skill-set of our North American and EMEA employees. As a company, we strive to keep our best talent by providing clear career paths and promotion opportunities. To ensure consistency across the globe, we designed a Global Levelling and Compensation structure in which we clearly define our expectations of the level of work to be performed in each role, and pair it with compensation data that anchored in market standards. With this foundation, we have created a high-performance culture. This culture allows us to be incredibly innovative with our software solutions. We have had significant enhancements with many of our products in the recent years. We also have R&D Innovation labs with dedicated members who are focused on exploring and experimenting with the latest technologies such as Machine Learning, Human Interface Design, IoT, Predictive Analytics & Intelligent Apps to name a few and helping our portfolio products when it comes to adoptions of these technologies.
