Pros

Some of the machinery you get to see is nothing short of awesome. I greatly enjoyed learning about the steelmaking process and the ins and outs of the industry Benefits are some of the best I've ever seen. The 401k match is great - they pay 6% for your first 5% contribution. Quarterly bonuses can be great if the company is making money. Lot of great people at this company, unfortunately with a company this large there will always be some bad apples. Locations are good for the most part. Most locations allow for city living or suburbs, whichever you prefer.

Cons

Definitely a "good old boys" environment. The steel industry is a very old one, and there are definitely people in very high ranking positions just because they had been there a long time Focus too much on new employees and recruiting, and not retaining employees. This is speaking from someone who did experience being spoiled early on as a new college recruit - which was great, but show appreciation for those that have been with the company 5-10 years as well. Transfer employees to new departments and locations without involving them in the decision at all. Simply point the finger and say "show up to this new department next week." Does not make employees feel like they have any say in their career path.

Pros

Decent pay on par with the industry with ample overtime opportunities. Note that OT is paid at straight time over 50hrs. Great place to gain job experience. If you are one of the boys you will know it with in 2 years and have upward mobility in the company. If not simply move along.

Cons

Salary bonus is no where near advertised. Working with the union is extremely difficult and will often drag their feet or fight you every turn. Salary is treated as second class to the union. Upper management will not support you in order to maintain the status quo to the extent of under cutting your authority and making you look weaker. Impact on your social life with long hours unhealthy eating and drinking habits that plague blue collar workers. Hot, Cold, Dirty and oily working conditions but what do you think you signed up for I'll move that last one back up to pros.

Pros

Fairly competitive starting salary for recent college graduates. Company provides up to 6% 401K match and is 100% vested immediately. Company offers competitive Graduate Study reimbursement of up to $24k per year.

Cons

Steel industry is currently suffering and the company is struggling financial, resulting in overall negative work environment, slashes in health care/benefits, and limited to no merit based pay increases. Upper management style is dated, poorly manages personnel changes, and fails to foster career development for its younger work force.
