DO NOT WORK HERE

Pros

Nothing anymore. ARUP used to be a respectable company to work for, but now it's been completely trashed by the current CEO.

Cons

In my personal experience, ARUP used to be a genuinely great place to work. The culture was strong, people cared about one another, and even though the pay lagged behind the industry, the environment made up for it. But that version of the company is gone. What’s left now barely resembles what longtime employees once valued. The shift in leadership direction has completely altered the workplace, and not for the better. Many of us have watched the culture deteriorate into something rigid, controlling, and indifferent to the people who built the company. Work‑life balance has been pushed aside. Employees feel micromanaged and undervalued, and the atmosphere has become tense and draining. I’ve seen talented, dedicated people walk away because they no longer felt respected or supported. Years of loyalty seem to mean nothing now, and the message employees get—intentionally or not—is that they’re replaceable. Morale has taken a nosedive. Trust has eroded. The sense of community that once defined ARUP feels like a memory. From my perspective, the company is burning through goodwill at an alarming rate, and the decline in retention, efficiency, and enthusiasm reflects that. Speaking only for myself, I would seriously caution any new hire or potential partner to take a hard look before getting involved. The current environment is nothing like the ARUP people once loved, and it shows. If you value respect, balance, and stability, you may want to consider other options.

Pros

Decent benefits. Nice 401k/403b matching plan. Great healthcare. Access to the clinic is really convenient and free.

Cons

Company culture encourages and rewards harassment and bullies. I was sexually harassed by a co-worker, who eventually left the company and was later rehired! They're so desperate for MLTs that they overlook inappropriate behavior. A trainer in the department tried to exploit power over myself and others to complete training assignments that he made up on his own; not company training material, just a word .doc he'd made up to make other people do to exploit his power over them. I refused to do what he asked and he treated me poorly after that, when before he had been nice. I let management know about the incident and nothing was done. The same coworker called out sick using family and childcare as an excuse and then posted on social media about going hiking (ended up breaking an arm and unable to work) and was never reprimanded. The same coworker treated most female coworkers poorly as well. He and a group of others in the lab openly excluded others who weren't Mormon or male. A co-worker in the department was continually harassed, made fun of openly to their face, and demeaned by others, and management turned a blind eye. The workplace encourages and does not punish group bullying tactics such as exclusion, gossip, and ignoring. All of the managers are extremely passive aggressive. Don't bother calling people out when they display inappropriate behavior at this company, because you'll get labeled as bad at working in a team; this means you're essentially blacklisted from getting rehired there through the way their performance review process works.

Sharp Decline and Executive Leadership Failure

Pros

Great co-workers, some great departmental leadership, free coffee. On-site family health clinic.

Cons

I once took pride in working here, but now I'm wanting to leave. Trust in the executives has collapsed, morale is very low, and employees are feeling burned out while the CEO prioritizes revenue over staff well-being even though this is a non-profit company. Pay is low with no flexibility, which is odd since they used to justify the low pay with work-life balance options. Loyalty feels pointless, as staff are treated as expendable. The CEO, despite years with the company, enforces policies that make long-term employees consider leaving. Major changes are imposed without input from those who understand employees needs such as supervisors and managers, resulting in miserable employees, increased workloads, and unfilled positions. The current workplace feels bleak and discouraging, making it difficult for anyone to be productive. Executives imposed half-wall cubicles under the guise of "spontaneous collaboration," it seems as though there's an unspoken expectation for us to monitor one another. Most of us still need to be on Teams meetings, but the open layout makes concentration and privacy impossible. Executive leadership's responses to concerns are dismissive and out of touch, exemplified by rigid return-to-office policy and outdated top-down management style. The push for innovation is contradicted by a refusal to adapt to modern workplace expectations, highlighting a disconnect between top leaders and the workforce. Despite claims of supporting families and work life balance, the top leadership's actions tell a different story. The CEO goes as far as to equate picking up your child from school and finishing work at home with the company subsidizing your childcare, a stance that dismisses real needs and undermines any genuine effort to accommodate employees' lives outside of the office. Requesting feedback from employees is a meaningless gesture here since leadership consistently ignores any input and refuses to implement any changes. The CEO's approach is especially problematic since decisions are made based on personal preferences and once he has made up his mind, he stubbornly refuses to reconsider, disregarding all evidence or employee perspectives. This autocratic style not only undermines staff morale but also makes it clear that genuine collaboration and improvement are not valued here. The only reason to work here or apply is if you're desperate for a job; otherwise, you would be better off somewhere else.
