The employee experience depends on the team

Pros

Asana does a great job of building an engaging and consistent culture across the company. The benefits are great, the onsite culinary team is very good at what they do, and people seem to enjoy their jobs and believe in what they're building.

Cons

It can be difficult to make any meaningful changes because the team is moving so fast and things that aren't the top priority fall off the roadmap. Some recent hires shifted the power dynamic and it felt really top down in terms of strategy and the more stress on the manager, the more they micromanage. I watched people good at their job get micromanaged into decreased performance.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we're so pleased that you're seeing people authentically believe in our product and our mission. We're really grateful for your perspective on managers and decision-making at Asana. These are aspects of our culture that we're actively working on as we scale, and we're investing heavily in manager training and enablement, as you may have seen in our latest manager trainings and workshops we held at our kickoff. Please continue sharing your feedback!

Pros

Very supportive on-boarding process. Top notch perks. Company has solid reason to exist. Slightly above average salary and stock grants.

Cons

Unfortunately Asana was the worst experience I've had in my career thus far. Extreme micro-management. A strong clique culture. My boss made a point to publicly say how long they'd taken to hire for my role-- but then essentially didn't allow me to do my job from that point forward. They rarely took my advice, but I was able to move some important structural elements into place before leaving. The loudest person in the room held the attention and made the decisions.

Pros

Fast growing, good culture, smart people, with good opportunity to learn good engineering practices. Compensation was previously an issue but you they've since raised salaries and the strong business outlook has made the stock compensation very worthwhile

Cons

Can feel a bit cultish due to everyone acting really positive and 90% of employees being SF liberals
