Pros

The only pros to working in IT for Ascension are the co-workers.

Cons

Ascension Technologies or should I say Gerry Lewis made the decision to Outsource the majority of all IT. All while they were working in the background on hiring an overseas company to replace IT employees they continued to have weekly all staff calls telling us how many great things we were doing and accomplishing for Ascension. Starting each all staff meeting with a religious “reflection” and prayer thanking all of the employees for what a great job we were doing. We were asked in IT to tighten the belt and save millions of dollars by doing more with less. We exceeded the money savings all while working tirelessly with little to no support from Sr. management. When Covid hit we (IT) were promised no one would lose their jobs and they were committed to being there for their employees. They even made a press release to say that no Ascension employees will be laid off due to Covid and they applied for and received financial aid from the government in the sum of millions of dollars to make sure that happened. Little did we know it was a ruse as this “Christian faith based” company was working with an overseas company to replace the employees they had been praising for doing such a great job. In Aug of 2020 during an all staff call they decided to let us (2000+) employees know we were no longer needed they were going to Outsource IT. Outsourcing IT even though we were able to cut millions of dollars from our budget, doing more with less and giving us constant praises and accolades of what a great job we were doing. Patient care and Christian values were no longer the focus, and it all came at the expense of employees who had served them with an average tenure of 10+ years. Their “Focus on Employees” values became Focus on money. They have burnt a bridge in the “local” IT community that will most likely never be repaired. I would not recommend this organization if you are in IT. I am sure there will be a canned response saying something to the effect of “we are sorry you feel this way but Ascension is dedicated to its employees and patients with its Christian values”. Dedication to employees and Christian values don’t let thousands of dedicated employees go especially during a pandemic when specifically told this would not happen.

WORKPLACE **PTSD** IS REAL

Pros

When I finally give my notice.

Cons

I've been suffering in silence for many months, feeling like I was alone. But I just found out a co-worker also has PTSD from being tormented by the same leadership. I feel it would be irresponsible of me to not post on Glassdoor to let potential candidates know about the environment here. (If you don’t know much about PTSD, it will significantly impact both your mental and physical health, hurt your personal relationships and/or have severe consequences to your home life.) The culture at Seton is toxic. After multiple rounds of layoffs, we are on a skeleton crew, and most of the remaining employees have insurmountable workloads and are struggling to tread water creating a CYA environment. Leaders show strong bias in their management style, with “favorite” employees who wander around 8-5 rubbing shoulders and brown-nosing; some of whom literally do ZERO WORK as they delegate to other poor souls who don’t even report to them and then claim their work as their own. Those who are less fortunate have OVERWHELMING workloads. No, not like “every other company” who is doing more with less. Seton is doing more with less because you have to account for the leadership’s “favorites” redistributing their workloads into their buckets. And don’t ever upset your leader, the Seton culture tolerates retribution. If you get on their bad side, or if they just don’t like you, it is apparent in the management of daily activities, in how they treat you, and when you receive your annual performance evaluations. I’ve seen examples of retaliatory behavior from managers through C-suite level. If you are a narcissist or a lemming you might do well here. Everyone else in between with career aspirations should beware of big smiles and false promises.

Pros

Good Benefits, Open Work Environment, Nice Building, Work From Home Options, and Free Drinks. You'll meet some great people and the company is very diverse.

Cons

Ascension is a joke, from HR all the way down. Leave is one of the worst departments at the service center. Someone came up with a bright idea of having their managers (who can't even manage themselves), go into other departments and manage. Let's just say those departments have failed miserably. The turn over rate in the time I was there was 15 people in less than a year who've escaped the madness. One Supervisor is sleeping with one of his employees and continues to flirt with her in front on everyone while the Manager of the department continues to act like he doesn't see it and blames others about starting rumors about something that is clear as day. None of the managers or supervisors have any experience over the department they're over. For example at least 3 managers on the benefits team have never has ANY experience in benefits anything. They have no leadership or communication skills or training. They belittle their employees and will forever micro manage. I see this company not making it pass the next 5 years, especially when you have hospitals who are separating themselves from the organization's leadership, the company is running out of money and outsourcing services in there OWN service center, and employees continue to leave. Bless any and everyone who works in the service center because they definitely need it.
