Interesting problems but slightly dysfunctional

Pros

Some teams have the opportunity to work with power system software that enables renewable energy. Sells to international customers. Software engineers are given a lot of responsibility to design, develop, test, and document. Work-life balance is not bad honestly.

Cons

Lots of technical debt, poor documentation, power engineering knowledge can be hard to pick up for software engineers who haven't studied it. Pay is below average and raises have just been matching inflation. Bonuses are dependent on arbitrary numbers the CEO comes up with.

Technology is world-class and the market position is very strong. People are some of the most experienced and intelligent that you will encounter professionally.

Cons

Onboarding is very haphazard - it's definitely sink or swim; company struggles to bring in perspectives that are non 'canon'; leadership style is hierarchical and often punitive; mistakes are punished; organization struggles to look in the mirror and learn from its own mistakes.

Poor management, no internal investment for growth, very territorial. Everyone is just trying to get their bonuses and if your in the way then your expendable.
