Pros

Great benefits finally just got better, with Aspentech recently coming more in line with tech companies offering RSU’s, a quarterly review system. Despite the negative reviews, salaries are on-par with the market just outside of Boston. Good pay. In R&D most of your coworkers are absolutely brilliant and accomplished individuals. You will feel imposter syndrome at the water cooler. Directors and lower management are top-notch, friendly, and open to feedback. Free coffee/tea/chocolate in the break rooms. Low turnover. Most people have been here 5+ years. Good interview process. Candidates meet with the team that needs them. It is a fair process because the questions asked during the interview are designed to tease out problem solving ability and personality.

Cons

For a business-casual dress-code, everybody sure dresses as if it’s all business. No doubt, the cubicle farm office environment looks like office space. Paying for lunch in the cafe. Not enough nice areas to get away from work, or work outside, or eat lunch. If you are a chemical engineer, Aspen is both a dream and a curse. You will become more of a software developer than a ChemE, and this experience won’t help you land a job in the chemical industry afterwards. Too many third party HR portals. You need to remember 10 passwords which all reset at different times, and remember where the information is in which service. It’s quite maddening. Agile-Fall development. WebEx, really?!
