Pros

The opportuntiy to buld and run a business. It was a lot of fun at times. It could be a very rewarding experience.

Cons

Don't you dare make a mistake. You will be destroyed by sr. management. I liken my experience at Garden Ridge to an abusive relationship. When it was good, it was very good...the best. When it was bad, it was hell.

Pros

The only "Pro" I have to offer was the pay. It was more than most retail jobs and they gave overtime every week.

Cons

Everything but the pay. I worked in conditions that were unacceptable and unsuitable for customers and employees. During the winter, the heat did not work. It only blew out freezing cold air, and still they kept it on anyway. It was like having an air conditioner on at all times, even when it was freezing cold and snowing outside. Complaints to management did nothing. They said they would not get it fixed. There were holes in the floor all throughout the store that were never addressed or fixed, which was a safety hazard to customers and employees. The store manager would go on "firing" sprees and fire handfulls of people at a time for petty and sometimes no reasons at all. You were constantly reminded of how many cameras were in the store and that you were being watched at all times either by management or by corporate from a laptop somewhere. Every move you made was scrutinized. There was no real "HR". When you tried to call and talk to someone, all you got was a voicemail and they never returned your calls. The same goes for their business number. They set it up so customers could never call the store and talk to someone. If you called out, you had to have personal time to cover it, otherwise you would be fired. If you requested personal time, it still counted against you. You were not allowed to wear a jacket or sweater during the winter even though they had the cold air blowing. They were so concenred over the most minute and petty details that if you breathed wrong, you could possibly get fired for it, yet they did not care about customer service or the appearance of the store at all. Infact, sometimes you would get in trouble or talked to if you did help a customer. The turnover rate was astronomical. From the time the store opened up until I left, the store went through 8 different managers and dozens of employees in just a matter of months. I endured all of this for 10 months until I was terminated for a reason they completely fabricated just to get rid of me after I was injured on the job. I could go on and on about all of the things I endured and experienced while working for this company but the bottom line is I would not reccommend anyone to work for this company.

Pros

-Large enough to allow some variety of working tasks -Nice people -Decent pay for the type of work being completed -Decent employee discount

Cons

-Customers get very defensive about sales and price-cuts. Often had to call manager or show the actual sale ad to define what was and was not on sale. -Cleaning up all the random things they offer -Dealing with Christmas products for 6-7 months of the year
