Pros

The low cost of health insurance, the section 125 plan, direct patient care staff comradery and the annual softball tournament.

Cons

Direct care staff is unappreciated by corporate management. Patient care is not a priority...only the financials matter. Just because something can be put down on paper, doesn’t mean it can be practiced in real life situations.

Pros

Adequate benefits. Reasonable insurance plans. Some decent players within system. Apparently some other departments have happy employees that feel supported.

Cons

Unsafe patient loads and acuity depending on patient mix. Management and corporate philosophy pay lip service to the notion of open communication and maintaining excellent clinical environment. In reality, this for-profit corp seems to be completely rigid and strictly census-driven. Professionally expressed concerns to administrator are essentially ignored despite their frequency and consistency. A dystopian work environment for the conscientious RN. Purchased a well regarded facility and slashed staffing to unsafe ratios, deeply damaging a well earned reputation in this geographical area. Complaints are met with canned responses by administrator with no apparent grasp of medical outcomes and the nursing process.

Pros

I like my co- workers and the residents. The building is attractive and well maintained. The health insurance and PTO is adequate.

Cons

This company has a high turnover rate with staff. It seems like someone is always being fired or pressured to leave. Most of us feel like we have no job security. There is never enough staff in any department to run the facility properly. It is difficult to take a break. Us nurses have watched our job descriptions grow with no extra pay or the ability to stay until our work is finished- we can't create overtime. There is very little communication from Athena itself. We have been in a wage freeze for two years now. But yet Athena keeps buying more facilities. Working in these conditions have created staff to have poor morale. If there is a light at the end of this tunnel, Athena should tell us.
