Pros

They do pay you for your lunch so you work 8 to 4 or 9 to 5

Cons

Most of working at Athena is a con. Management acted like they cared about our concerns, but in reality, they did not. Athena does not value their employees, their philosophy is "if you're unhappy, go elsewhere" they do not look at for any other interest beside their own. The budget for each facility is completely off based from what will actually be paid. The recreation directors are allowed to bring in entertainers and then their payment is held back for months. I would get close to thirty emails and calls a day from vendors that were not being paid and we were not allowed to tell them anything except that we would try to get payment out. We were told to put together lists of what each of our facilities needed to have paid, this list was usually disregarded and ignored, but we still had to maintain it, they didn't even know how or where they wanted us to keep this list or how they wanted it given to them, they changed that process many times. The finance department is the most unorganized department I have ever seen. I read other reviews and employees from the facility mention how the finance department doesn't care, it is not the bookkeepers, we tried to care, we weren't allowed to pay anything with out approval. There would be many accounts shut off in the facilities that were needed to care for patients because things were ignored until the point where services were cut off. Then they throw a softball tournament every year spending tens of thousands of dollars to pretend like they care about their staff, that tournament is allllll for show. Don't work here no matter how much you need a job, it will suck any happiness and joy you have in your life.

Pros

Medical and dental coverage very good

Cons

Corporate CEO and CFO are concerned only with money and uses bullying tactics with the individual buildings. Horrible way to treat long-standing employees who truly cared about the clientele......our residents. Overworked and understaffed. Many loyal and dedicated employees have left jobs that they once loved.

Athena has a strong record of success in southern New England, since 1984. Although Athena has acquired additional centers over the past few years, we have only expanded in geographical areas with an existing Athena footprint, to not stretch our team too thin. Our expansion has served to strengthen our centers and fortify our financial stability. Because of this, we believe our managed centers are a better place for residents to live, patients to stay and employees to work. Our employees, patients, residents and families are the reason we are here and do what we do. Not only do we continually strive to be the best in the care and services we provide to our patients and their families, we aim to be the employer of choice through treating our employees with the dignity and respect they deserve, going above and beyond what most employers provide when it comes to our exceptional and generous benefits, as well as competitive wages. Employees choose Athena centers because they share our common goal of providing the best care to our patients and they know our reputation. They stay with Athena because of the outstanding working environment, benefits, career advancement opportunities and much more. Additionally, Athena has an established grievance procedure for employees who feel their concerns have not been sufficiently addressed at the center level. We invite all employees to utilize this (via mail, email and phone access) and communicate this is several ways.
