The pension is probably why the compensation isn't great, but as someone early in your career, just work somewhere else and make more money, and invest the difference yourself. You'd be better off that way likely. Prepare to be disappointed if profit sharing isn't paid out because of the weather, which is out of your control.

Below industry pay. Bonuses not guaranteed. Benefits very expensive if you are over 50. All company cares about is numbers and quotas. They work you like a dog, no paid overtime and 1-2% raises.
