Pros

Pension. Made great friends working in the branch.

Cons

Low pay. Under appreciated. Higher-ups do not care about the safety or well being of their employees. In bad weather they would rather risk the lives of their employees than have a branch close for the day, or have a two hour delay in a snow storm. Profit for the Senior VP's is all they care about. The underwriting job can be done from home, and we have the capability to work from home (laptops) but it is not allowed even when our lives are in danger during bad weather. You either take a personal/vacation day, or you risk your safety to get into work, and even then you will most likely risk getting in trouble for being late when it is a blizzard out. This is also a very slow progressing company. Many branches did not even have internet for their employees until 2010/2011... women were required to wear tights/stockings until the late 2010's... very slow evolving company in general.

Pros

It is a stable company that offers a pension. However, these "golden handcuffs" are also a negative, keeping people there that might not really want to be. This is a good place for relatively naive recent grads who don't know what a truly well-run, well-managed workplace is like and possibly also for experienced insurance professionals who already know what they're getting into and accept that.

Cons

They do not staff appropriately. They play favorites and treat employees unequally, and specifically instruct their new managers to do so. They punish you for standing up for yourself and for taking their advice to seek assistance when necessary.

Pros

- Pension - 37.5 hour work week - Middle management listens

Cons

- Upper management is out of touch with reality. - Management makes decisions based on feelings instead of data. - WFH keeps getting reduced without data to prove it should be. - Pay is lower than it should be. - Upper management doesn't listen to widespread issues. - They push ideas without having information to back it up.
