Pros

People who are patient enough to get past a rather lengthy pre hire screening are likely to be hired. If you are a commissioned employee and can produce under the circumstances presented at your place of hire you may get shipped to one of the poorly performing dealerships as a manager. I found it difficult finding even 20 words to put in the pro category. It's a job and not much more.

Cons

I was employed at 3 different dealerships owned by AutoNation group as a service manager and service advisor. AN entered the Dallas market opening the used car super centers. Nationally AN decided they should be in the new car dealership business and closed all opf the used car operations. They bought a large number of dealerships including many in the Dallas market. In time they wound up closing many of the domestic dealerships. I was employed at one particular dealership when AN purchased it and later when they sold it. The dealership was both 1# in their market brand and award winning under recent private ownership. The employees had worked long and hard to get it that way and were proud of it. Many employees were long term. AN quickly set about changing everything. Soon enough they proved they did not know what they were doing and contiued to prove it until they sold the dealership. The changed pay plans, processes and turned over the entire sales force, finance dept, aftermarket sales, every sales manager and general manager as well as many parts and service employees. Many departing employees headed directly for our nearest same brand competitor taking their large customer base with them and our competetor became #1 . The dealerships performance was simply embarrassing and dismal during AN ownership. Those employees that were still there, some of them had been in that store up to 20 years were asrrogantly referred to as" long term entrenched employees". After about a decade AN sold it and the new ownership returned it to its #1 status in about a years time. AN now believes that they should shift focus to high end import dealerships. With ANs track record of turning Dealerships into real estate only time will tell.

Pros

Okay pay.....not much more I can say...

Cons

I haven't worked for alot of companies, but this is by far the worst. When I started in Check Processing, there were people leaving on a monthly basis for a while.. soon it was a revolving door, people coming and leaving. During the interview they make the place out to be such a great company.. Forbes 500 doesn't mean crap for employees... First let me say if you are looking to add any experience to your resume.... HERE IS NOT THE PLACE! PTO- after 1 year you get 2 weeks. This included ANY time you take off other than holidays (if you have the luxury of getting them off .. Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only guaranteed ones). There is no sick time, no vacation time, no personal time - - STRAIGHT TWO WEEKS PAID TIME OFF. SOunds like alot, until you come back from being sick for two days and you are FORCED to use your PTO.. Have a doctors appointment that had you out half of the day? Expect for 4 hours to be taken from your PTO. I think they do this, so when you finally want to take a weeks vacation in the middle of the year, you've used it all because they've MADE YOU use it for sick time and late days. Oh and you have to use 5 days the first 6 months of the year and 5 days the last six... some departments are leniant when it comes to usuage... but THEY WILL ALL MAKE YOU USE IT WHEN YOU DONT WANT TO!!! At the SSC in Irving, it sometimes felt like a sweat shop. Some departments are overloaded with work, with minimal pay, while other departments make decent pay plus bonuses and work maybe two weeks out of a month. If you are one to brown nose, you can get far at the SSC. Too bad your only choices are lead and supervisor. There is no room for growth and really nothing to add to your resume. Dont think you will go to the SSC and gain experience in anything but data entry. Thats all that place is. For as big as this company is, you would think they would reward their employees for such hard work. THEY DONT. Health insurance premiums are high. IF you get a raise it's usually below a quarter. For lead positions, they expect alot more work for usually a dollar more. Everything about this company revolves around numbers. How many checks can you cut, how many deals can you enter, how many vehicles can you stock. And if you cant do it, they will just replace you with the next. You are just a number there. If you are in DESPERATE need for a job - - go for it... otherwise, go with your gut. They are desperate for people because people are constantly leaving them. I wish i had gone with my gut and turned this place down like I did during my second interview... THEY CALLED ME BACK to offer me what i wanted - - not knowing they had a hard time keeping people. STAY AWAY FROM HERE - -

Pros

The commute was great. Other than that....

Cons

It is a giant corporation where you are spoon-fed their propaganda about how great they are. It's a ruse. An employee must work for 6 months to get their Health Insurance. After you get it, you are sadly disappointed. It is expensive, has a really high deductible, and it costs a fortune to add your family members. The company doesn't respond to requests for office equipment for new employees. The process to hire takes weeks. However, when you start work, nothing is ready for your arrival! They make a great first impression! You will feel not welcome and confused. I was hired to be a sales person and was to respond to Internet Leads. After a month and a half, I still had no phone, nor a computer. My fake managers, who were sales people who were just told they were managers..."Poof! NOW, you are a Manager, Dude!"...told me they made several requests. They did not. They also told me they ordered my Business Cards. They never did. Finally, I was criticized publicly, in a sales meeting, in front of my teammates and ridiculed as a "Squeaky Wheel"...because I wanted the tools to do my job. It had only been a month and a half with no phone or computer. I only got ONE Internet Lead in all thse weeks. I was starving! An effective manager knows to "Praise in public and criticize in private"...but these guys have not even been to Amazon.com to peruse books on Management!!! I would have gladly loaned them my computer, but I never got one. The really nice guy at the desk next to mine soon grew weary of me using his phone. I could only have access to it when he had his days off. I still didn't get incoming calls because I had to leap over to his phone and it was always too late. Someone, who HAD a phone, always beat me to the call. When I "walked", they were astounded. "Let's go in and talk." They wanted me to go into a room with the door closed and speak with 2 of the "managers". No way. I offered to "talk" right there...but, then, they wouldn't be "in control"; on their closed-door turf. So, if I wouldn't go into that office, they would not speak with me. I'm glad I remembered to go back in and get the office chair they had me buy. I was to be reimbursed. BIG SURPRISE!!! I was never reimbursed for the chair! It's mine now. GROAN Do not work for this company. Their training programs lock-up and kick you out. You end up taking the same modules over and over, until you finally get them to complete. it does no good to point out all the "bugs". No one listens...and they already know that they can't change their system...let alone improve it. It's been broken so long and they have been brainwashed into believing they are working for the best company ever. The Kool-aid is very good. To me, t was YUCKY!!!
