Pros

If you like retail sales, working on/knowledge of cars and trucks, and helping folks keep their cars running then it's a satisfying job.

Cons

Like most retail stores AutoZone never has enough employee's on the floor to accomplish the corporate workload (i.e. store maintenance, stock/inventory/planograms) and service the customer at the same time. Pay is poor when one considers that the employee is expected to be able to advise the customer on how to repair their vehicle and ASE Certification is encouraged. Manager's are severely undervalued, there are cases where senior part-time sales make more money per hour than full-time manager's which is wholly unsatisfactory.

Pros

Work in a relatively small town 8,000 some people so its not always busy. Co-workers are experienced and very knowledgeable. Store manager actually works side by side with us good attitude and sense of humor. 20% parts discount. Good way to get into the automotive business. Opened up more as a person, defiantly cant be shy and reserved working retail. All and all so far its not a bad place to work but i haven't been here to long.

Cons

Stupid check out challenges. Pay for your own uniform. Customers don't always know what in the hell they want and act like you are suppose know. People that don't know anything about their vehicle( year engine size ect).

Pros

good work environment at store level good discount most store managers are nice and treat you fairly company paid ASE testing

Cons

no opportunity for advancement unless your one of the district managers favorites they have a ridiculous points system for attendance which only applys to hourly employees, you will get fired if you get to 12 points and this only applys to hourly employees salaried employees which is store manager ad up dont get points so they can come and go as they please and call out and they will promote someone to store manager who dosnt know a thing about cars and isnt even ASE certified and has only been with the company for a year or two and they also have way too many paper reports you dont get recognised for good performance and sales but upper management will waste no time calling you out if you have poor performance and sales they have the checkout challenge every month which is usually a stupid item that no one needs or wants but we have to try to sell it to every customer that comes to the counter its just very corporate and they do not care about their employees we are just a number to them and we are all expedable and every quarter they release a news letter about the billions of dollars they made the last quarter yet they give hourly employees a raise once a year which is usually about 25-40 cents
