Owner believes he is a CEO but he is self appointed and inexperienced with a meek personality and is unable to articulate words into actions. Revolving Door of Leadership, Incompetent CEO The Owner believes he is a CEO. He is a good owner and allows the company to spend money on the employees but he is incapable of being a leader let alone a CEO. Meek personality and unable to articulate words into actions. Every year you will be told the software will be ready in 2 years. It's a company joke! I was told the new software would be ready no later than 2017. I lost total faith in the CEO being able to bring a product to market after years of excuses as to why it wasn't completed. Long term employees have taken notice and left. Support is the only decent area to work in this company. Customers are leaving in droves and new customers are trickling in. As a Leader you will join the company and you will fall into the "shiny penny" phase. This is where you will be asked to solve the companies problems and take on issues well outside your role. You will work hard and build a 12 month plan. In the next 3-6 months you will experience the "falling out of grace period" You'll know your in this phase because you will be asked for your deliverables to materialize even though you showed a 12 month plan. CEO will begin to spend the majority of his time on his cell phone during your presentations and will begin mocking you to other Leadership members. In months 9-12 you will notice a significant decrease in communication from the CEO. This is the point where you begin polishing up your resume. Don't believe me? During your interview ask how long each member of leadership has been there. Remember this is a 30+ year company. 2 years is the max, 1 exceptional leader is close to 3... Let me give you some additional perspective. I started in 2015. In that time I have seen 17 Leadership team positions vacated. This does't include the current incumbents.

A sad tale

Pros

It's astonishing to me that Glassdoor allows themselves to be gamed by this company's transparent attempts to gloss over and dismiss the brutal (though true) accounts of its disastrous management since the arrival of new product management. Autosoft had an incredible team in place, both from a product management and software development aspect. For the nearly 3 years I worked there, it was the best job I had ever had (and my career was nearing 20 years). Brilliant, generous colleagues and supportive management; I was happy to come to work every day.

Cons

Then the President/Owner decided to bring in new product management, and he had the remarkable ability to come in at the end of an amped-up staff meeting and gradually purge it of any remaining energy. The boss had his yes-man, and anyone who disagreed knew where the door was. As a result, most of middle management, many in upper management and nearly the entire product development team opted to exit through that door. No accounting of this brain drain can perhaps adequately convey the value of the lost knowledge—simply devastating.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that we have incredible, brilliant people working here at Autosoft, with very supportive management. I'm glad to hear that working at Autosoft was the best job you ever had over your 20 year career as a software engineer. Autosoft is continuously recognized as an outstanding employer, through award programs that are driven by feedback from our employees. We definitely can't "gloss over and dismiss" the fact that it's very challenging and rewarding to work at Autosoft. It's challenging work and we continue to attract and develop the right individuals who are excited about the opportunities ahead, have the right experience and skills, understand the vision and path, and have the right attitude. Like any company with big vision and goals, we have successes and failures along the way. I'm proud to be part of a company that gives employees the transparency, autonomy and ability to make decisions and fail forward, learn from mistakes and make corrections along the way. Unfortunately, change isn't for everyone, and not everyone can thrive in an environment that pushes people to grow and challenges people to improve every day. I am sorry you didn't get a chance to grow your career at Autosoft.

What seems extreme turnover on the leadership team Changed focus from completing our main focus (rewriting the product) to distracting projects Guy calling the shots works remote as a contractor and hires his friends just because Company meetings seem to be blatant lies. I would like to thank you for your feedback. It’s unfortunate to hear that your experience at Autosoft has not matched our intentions of being the best place to work. As you mentioned, we as an organization are going through quite a few changes; DMS rewrite, transitioning to Agile and company-wide growth. These changes can be more painful for certain individuals, and can require leadership changes. We are always evaluating our company needs and take pride in the individuals that we hire and promote. Our goal is to always find the right fit for our organization; skills, experience, leadership qualities and culture fit. These are some of the criteria we look at when making hiring decisions. Your feedback indicates to me that we may need to improve our communication during all these exciting changes, I will take this back to the managers. If you’d like to share more about your experience, please feel free to contact me directly.
