Pros

New management style appears to be buy a company/keep portions of company and lay off/sell off other portions. Might have some more years of juice left.

Cons

This strategy can't go on forever.

Pros

I worked for LSI Corporation, a fantastic pro-employee company, rich with talent and R&D potential. Packaged out as soon as the deal closed, and extremely happy about it.

Cons

This company bought LSI, and sold it off in chunks, simply a business transaction. There are some good people that were left behind, and are miserable. I don't think it will be long before they get an awesome opportunity elsewhere.

Name keeps on changing, but nothing else does

Pros

- Great compensation and benefits - Great co-workers - Office politics rare

Cons

This company used to be part of Hewlett-Packard before spinning off into Agilent Technologies and then spinning off again into Avago Technologies. Recent acquisitions of LSI and Broadcom gives the appearance of growth and change, but behind the scenes it's business as usual. Engineers are promoted into leadership positions and there are very few, if any, really groundbreaking ideas being generated. Most people are just coasting through their careers, collecting paychecks, and turning the engineering crank. If you are interested in an exciting, high energy, high growth environment where you are doing meaningful work, this is not your company. If you want to spend the next 20 years getting paid really well and become really good at doing one thing over and over, then this is the place for you.
