Pros

The single star Glassdoor requires is for the good people and friends that work in the lower levels.

Cons

Avalara is getting managed to its grave. The CEO is gregarious but greedy, taking a lot of meetings from his rich guy ranch in Colorado. He's very out of touch customers and with the compliance industry and even less in touch with the people that work at Avalara. He's put more out of touch people in his C-suite and they all bend and bow to the whims and winds of their bosses at Vista Equity Partners, the ultimate collective of out of touch strategists and financiers intent on squeezing the life and humanity out of their "assets" until they can sell a corpse of a company for some fraudulent multiple of what they originally paid for it. It's really sad actually because Avalara has created a solution that's really valuable to its customers, but customers are leaving in droves. Avalara is shrinking in all meaningful ways because of the C-suite's neglect and greed. Smart A-player employees are leaving. Customers can't get the help they need. Vista has issued price increases 2x in just as many years. Pay is whatever. There's layoffs consistently in small batches. You're always wondering if you're next. It's just all disheartening.

Lacking in Leadership, Mentorship, Collaboration

Pros

Lots of interesting challenges to be solved, and low-hanging fruit problems to solve.

Cons

Old boys club. Lack of drive amongst other employees just laying low and collecting the paycheck at an uninspiring company that isn't well organized. Depends on team obviously, but in my experience - managers very concerned with their own reputation and climbing the corporate ladder, and not so interested in helping their teams grow and excel.

It's going to get a lot worse before it improves, if it improves.
