Pros

The residents are wonderful, but ignored due to management turnover. Regular employees care, but are made ineffectual due to company policies.

Cons

This company as a whole is all about the money, not about the staff or even the residents. The words they spout do not match their actions- their company policies and mission statement do not live up to their actual life given to the residents.Awful! jShame on you!

Pros

Fast hire! No orientation, just huge stacks of paperwork! Minimal training! Employees with seniority get to show up late to work almost every day, miss shifts, and complain about their jobs constantly with immunity!

Cons

I've never been fired from a job before. Avamere has changed that for me. I really didn't want to work for this kind of company, but they hounded me after the interview and offered me such flexible hours that it was hard to say no. They ended up smacking more hours on me using intimidation tactics, so I had to leave my internship and seriously sacrifice relationships with friends and family. As soon as I became heavily invested, doing my very best work, they fired me with no warning when I gleefully showed up to work one morning. The reason? "We have the right to fire you within 90 days." The real reason I was fired is because I was given the wrong information from a senior coworker who I didn't rat out. Didn't expect such a minor issue to leave a qualified, hard-working employee out on his behind, especially since I was much more qualified and professional than my coworkers. Maybe if I'd ratted her out for an error that wasn't her fault either, I'd still have my horrible job at Avamere. I can only dream.

Pros

There are no pros working for this company.

Cons

They use a business model that doesn't work. One licensed nurse for an average of 22 patients. A med tech to administer the medications. An average of 1 maybe 2 cna's per hall. They are so understaffed with nurses that people stay after their shift, usually 2-3 hours to complete their paperwork and charting. It's impossible to get all the work done that is assigned in a12-shift. They only work 12 hour shifts for the nurses because they don't pay over time. So staying after to complete the paperwork keeps the staff within 40 hours. The people that work there have for years and they have a work routine and anything that interrupts that creates a panic. I worked with one nurse who got her first meal break at 4:30 p.m. They lock up all the office supplies. There are none to be found at any of the nurses' desks. They do not pay the standard in the industry, as well as, no shift incentives. The nurses that I worked with kept saying "you just get use to it". You are given 3-4 days of orientation. It is micro managed which leads to an authoritative style of management. They are constantly putting out fires because of the lack of staff which leads to mistakes. Multiple med errors and complaints from the patients. This is the worst place I have ever worked. If you don't believe me look up their health rating. They are 2 - 21/2 times higher than other places. There rating is 11. The smaller the number the better. I would not recommend employment to anyone or placement of a loved one.
