Pros

It is better than being unemployed, but as a career decision similarly financially reliable.

Cons

In some Avamere communities the budgets have been cut so drastically, due to principals not paying attention to their business resulting in overall financial trouble, that quality has been extremely diminshed. This includes everything from food to employee quality. The residents bought one thing and are being delivered far less. Avamere thinks nothing of firing long term managers dedicated to their business, and bringing in those just out of college at a minimum wage or part time. Last year home office fired 30- 40% of the employees. This has been a tough couple of years for all buinesses due to economy but Avamere prinicpals like to point to employees as responsible for declines. If you end up working for them, just know that your dedication and hard work will not be appreciated and your head will likely be, at some point, on the block...the corporate personality has been likened to being one of Henry VIII's wives.

Pros

Our ED is/was amazing. She really cared about everyone, residents and her employees. About 1/3 of the staff was smart, friendly, and worked really hard

Cons

under paid, under staffed, not enough supplies ever. Having to run to the store on our "lunch break" and buy stuff with our own money. a lot of the staff looked and smelled like they were homeless, and showing up to work sometimes not quite all there. If your shift is over and you need to pick your kids and your relief doesn't show you have to stay, or they will phone the police and charge you with neglect. (so it's ok to neglect my kids??)

Pros

The residents deserve someone to care for them. Residents only Pro

Cons

NO training, in any position, not enough staff, when you take time off it is looked at as a negative thing even when you have earned the time off, some positions you are on call and even when your really sick they don't find people to take call so you can actually get a full nights sleep. NO compation for employees or residents when it comes to the upper management. When I watched the core values video I couldnt believe it, they aren't meeting any of the things they say they are about. They really should have an under cover boss come in and work so they can see how their employees and residents are being cared for. I woud never place a family member here and I don't recommend working here, they don't even offer sick leave and expect you to come to work sick so you can get elderly people sick. They don't have enought employees to allow you to stay home and rest.
