Good Benefits, but No Room For Growth

Pros

Great benefits package and flexibility is nice

Cons

No room for growth if you work in a field office, upper corporate management is disconnected with subordinates out in the field. Pay is not compatible with industry and the education level of the employee. The review process is not measured accurately; therefore, it does not matter how well or how poorly you perform. Company lay offs have been going on for the past two years with more to come. Employees are scared! If you are looking to work for Aveda, I would wait to apply until things are structured better and senior management has more of an understanding where the company is heading across the board.

Pros

Pay is better than most retail jobs, the stores always smell good and the job is easy

Cons

The managers seem really incompetent at times. It makes you wonder how they obtained their positions. One of my managers doesn't have basic computer skills. The other one doesn't have a backbone, so it's difficult to have respect for them. I came in at the tail end of fundraising for Earth month, this year, and the managers were encouraging everyone to do things that "they really weren't supposed to do," in order to reach their fundraising goal...being new I wasn't sure what that was, but the words spoke for themselves. No one really dresses appropriately, men are allowed to wear jeans, women are not (in the store I work in) and it stays dirty because no one cleans. But, one of the biggest disappointments is that the training sucks and so far I've been pushed through two trainings (given answers) just to have it documented that I completed it, when I really didn't. I agree with some of the other reviews about bad business practices. It's also weird that we have to perform services, for free, that licensed professionals usually get paid to perform, not sure how they've managed to get away with that. And, it's true there seems to be no upward movement, based on what I've heard - I know of one manager who has been trying to get promoted for over 10 years and it hasn't happened yet. So, if you're looking for a career, this isn't the place.
