Worst Place to Work Ever

Pros

Gives you the skills necessary to get a better job elsewhere. This is the kind of entry level job you stay at just get your basic office training and leave.

Cons

Inner Circle attitude Poor Management No Career Path No real training Very unprofessional I feel like I work in high school. Even the people who are over 40 act like they are still in high school. There are probably a handful of people who know how to act and dress professionally. Management does nothing to control it, there are no repercussions for the immature behavior. Furthermore, the import manager likes to yell at people in front of everyone else and the manger will come stand at your desk and literally watch over your shoulder as you work and then you get the person will yell at you until you are practically in tears. In addition, I had an interview somewhere and I was talking to the import manager and she brought it, please bear in mind my interview elsewhere did not have anything to do with what the actual meeting was about. As far as a career path goes, if you intend on staying entry level for the rest of your life you will not find movement to other departments easy. BDP in no way has any defined career paths for to follow. On another note on career paths do not look to become team lead because there is nothing but dead wood there and becoming a team lead is not easy. I have known more qualified people be passed up for incompetence, I guess easier to control. I also know people who have been working there for very long time and extremely qualified never get promoted. I could go on but I will not. I hope this helpful to current employees and to job seekers. Don't waste your time, not worth it.

Pros

Good office location. Mice usually only come out in the winter. You can wear whatever you want because the company has no pride.

Cons

There are too many cons to cover, so I'll give my top 3.... First, this place is cheap - the type of cheap that makes you embarrassed to work there. The pay is cheap, the medical benefits are cheap, the rare raises are cheap, the 37.5 hour work week is cheap (you are expected to be in the office for 8.5 hours per day but get paid for 7.5), and there are zero perks, bonuses, commissions, variable pay, etc. On a couple occasions, I was asked by management to remove extra hours from my timesheet that I had worked hard for, because they didn't want to pay me for them. These extra hours were necessary for me to fulfill my customers' needs and even with these extra hours, I was still under 40 for the week, meaning they would not have qualified for the time-and-a-half rate, but the company STILL didn't want to pay me for them. I don't even know if that's legal, but I do know that it is laughably cheap. Second, this place is sad. By "sad" here, I don't mean "pathetic," although don't get me wrong, this place is pathetic. I mean it is sad in that it is depressing and soul-crushing. Think of the morale depicted by textbooks of a 19th century coal mine, or a Depression-era sweatshop. People would come into the office and sit down at their desks without saying hello or anything at all to each other. Aside from the mornings, the office was quiet in general. No one was happy to be there, and it was easier to put your head down and chip away at your daunting amount of work rather than try to hide your depression through friendly conversations, or get to know the person next to you when one of you would soon be gone. This sadness was felt from the top down, no matter what your role. Third, this company is the epitome of a dead-end job. By now you might be thinking, "I can deal with being underpaid for a little while; it's just a start, and I need a job. It's a foot in a door" Or perhaps you think, "I am an introvert anyway, I can temporarily work in a sad, silent environment until a better opportunity comes along." Internally, there are zero chances for growth, period. Unless you are related to upper management, are fine with being underappreciated for a VERY long time, or willing to give sexual favors, you will go nowhere within the company. Successful employees are kept where they are because that is easiest and cheapest for the company. Also, the company as a whole is not growing, in fact it may even be bleeding, which further limits opportunity. Externally, your experience here will not be valued by any reputable company, as BDP's practices and technologies are severely outdated, which even their customers are finally starting to realize. You won't gain any experience using software that other logistics companies use, and you will not have any goals or successes to show for because all of that type of information is mysteriously kept from employees of all levels to a baffling extent. Maybe you are homeless without any other prospects. Maybe you just served a minimum of 10 years in prison for a heinous crime that makes you almost unemployable. Maybe you truly hate yourself. If any of those apply to you, then maybe you should consider taking a job at BDP. If not, please, continue with your job search and never look back.

Pros

In my opinion the best things about working here are hands down the people and the location. Everyone in the office is really nice including the team leads (who are essentially your boss) which makes it a much better environment to be in. Also, if you work in the Philly office the location is awesome and in one of the best areas of the city. Being able to work from home every once in a while is also a big plus.

Cons

Although the logistics coordinator position is slowly changing as the company improves it's technology, it is still very much a data entry position. If you're not into a desk job and doing data entry from 9-5 for a 40k salary, this job isn't for you. My other complaint is that the training is simply not good enough. Unfortunately the team leads are very busy and don't seem to have enough time to properly train new hires. The only way to learn is to ask a ton of questions which can be very frustrating and I think they really need to work to improve the training process. I have been here for almost 5 months and there is still a lot that I don't understand.

Hi and thank you for your feedback. Our corporate office is in a fantastic location in downtown Philadelphia! We also pride ourselves on the relationships employees and built within BDP as that is a huge part of our company culture. As for our training program, we are continuously adding to, and improving on, our training and development programs, not only for employees, but to also help our management teams be more effective managers. If there is ever anything an employee is not sure of, we encourage them to either reach out to their supervisor or our Training, Education, and Development (TED) team.
