BMC Software Inc. has a professional work environment. Competitive pay and a great working environment. You have an array of activities to be involved in. There are quite a few mergers that may go on through the year and every year there are lay offs. The layoffs tend to lean toward the sales team and the administrative team. IT jobs are being sent to India (of course) but there are still IT Jobs that are located in Houston. On the job site there is a cleaners, hair salon, delis, basketball court, tennis field, soccer/football field. You will absolutely love it

Pros

Many opportunities for sharp individuals. BMC is a large corporation that offers a lot of advancement for those that are sharp and can navigate the political spider web. There are a lot of cultural clashes going on as a result of recent acquisitions, so there should be a lot of room for growth in the near future for those that can avoid becoming a casualty.

Cons

Politics and mismanagement are out of control. There are far too many layers of middle management and since the company gives no profit sharing or stock options to employees, everyone has their own interests at heart rather than those of the company as a whole.

BMC has got a great upside if the legacy culture and leadership style could get out of the way.

Cons

Managing "up" is the only thing that maaters. Innovation and "get it done" attitude is punished by mid-level managers that have made careers by managing-up.
