Be not fooled by the SVP title. There a dime a dozen and I was not a manager. I was cheated out of $50K+ upon layoff. Major manipulation hiring/firing. After my final pre-employment interview we settled on salary easily enough. But upon start-date discussion, they kept pushing me back further into the future. While I knew background checks (employment, credit, criminal, etc.) can take a month or even a bit more, I offered 6 weeks out, then eight but their excuses just kept coming (e.g., “we’re tied up with next year’s budget”, “many people are out during the holiday”, blah, blah, blah). I’m thinking maybe they really don’t want me on board. Very strange. But they held the cards so I just went along. I started 5 months after my final interview (and no, there was no delay due to the background check, itself). That start date went into the next calendar year [2021]. Sure enough, as I found out a year and a half later (while researching an unrelated matter), there was a benefit slashing for all (and only) employees starting on or after January 1, 2021. Note: regarding employee benefits, Bony is a run of the mill company in every way except one: they match 7% of salary on the 401(k), whereas most of corporate America is just 3%. And before 2021, the match was immediately vested; no waiting period. With their manipulated postponement of my starting date I became among the first employees whose benefit was degraded. The vesting period was now 3 years before dime one of the match became the employee’s money. There are 156 weeks in 3 years and, coincidence of coincidences, a layoff pulls the rug out on me right at the finish line, having served 153 of those 156 weeks required for vesting; a loss of over $30K. Additionally, that same month [Feb.] following my last day, the previous year’s bonus – a year for which I served all 52 weeks -- would have been paid out (about another $20k). I even hired a lawyer but to no avail. They wouldn’t budge. For where an employer has no ethical conscience, all that matters is to operate just inside the law. And that is Bony.
