Pros

BNY Mellon was previously a fantastic company with strong values and a true client service focused atmosphere. I was proud to work here. Line managers allow you to take on many special projects so that you can grow both personally and professionally. Flexible work arrangements here are second to none.

Cons

The company has changed dramatically over the past year and more specifically since CEO Gerald Hassell took over for Bob Kelly. While cost cutting measures are critical to our stability and growth, employees are paying the price for expensive acquisitions that have not seen the ROI we expected. Employees have seen bonuses eliminated, Health Insurance benefits go downhill, a freeze on raises, a freeze on even managers buying coffee and donuts at a meeting. Employees have to use their own personal laptop and cell phone and travel to meetings with no reimbursement. Job "restructuring" singling people out for demotion. This is the nightmare we heard about that was the culture at The Bank of New York and it is now being revisited.

Pros

You receive a paycheck...that's about all I can say for positives

Cons

What do the items in the title have in common? None of them exist, especially pay for performance. Unless you consider a 1% raise adequate compensation for your efforts. On top of that you will have the pleasure of being forced ranked at review time. Here is what you need to know: Stay out of Fund accounting (CARS) at all costs. This group has been letting people leave without replacing them for years, as part of their cost saving strategy. Work is being sent to India left and right.Everyone there is on borrowed time and are acting like it. Many of the managers and especially the senior managers are playing out the string and will do anything not to rock the boat. If you make a mistake you will be treated like a mass murderer. You will be forced to come in during blizzards and work past 730 every night. Stay out of the third floor bathroom in Everett. It is an abomination. These people have no respect for their bodies much less their coworkers.

Be prepared for bad salary and horrible promotions

Pros

Good Working Hours, Decent Vacation time, Decent benefits, Good diversity and infinity networks

Cons

Poor management period. The people who do work hard, don't get promoted. Meanwhile, the people who do get promoted take their friends with them to the top when they shouldn't be. Horrible office politics. Very old school mentality. Horrible systems to work with and way too many of them, nothing is streamlined correctly. Pay is awful and is based on management discretion, which again they give out raises and bonuses to their favorites and are not based on merits or hard work. They tend to promote from within, even if there is no one who is fit for the job, instead of going outside of the company for someone with better skillsets - which leads to employee dissatification, resentment and overall laziness. They keep employees with horrible work attitudes and poor work performance instead of hiring new blood with better overall morale.
