Pros

Vacation Time- Time off is Ample. About the only pro anymore. When this is the priority - one can imagine why the best talent isn't attracted.

Cons

The firm used to be solid. But it has taken a major turn downward in the last 5 years. They have gone left when the industry has gone right and not in a good way. 1. Let's start with withholding your 401k match for 15 months. You don't earn for that entire year, but the company keeps the earnings. Then, they only give it to you if you stay through that time period. They say it's an industry standard but it's not. 2. If you leave you do not get paid for vacation time unused. Period. 3. There are continuous rolling layoffs. Jack Welch style. This keeps them out of the news. 4. What once was a culture of people and doing what is right has now become a culture of 'Firm first'. Many issues almost reported to the OCC of crossing the line of their fiduciary standard. In my eyes, one move away from a massive ethical lawsuit. 5. Pay for younger folks is higher than market, trapping them in the company. Veterans of the firm are not welcome. This seems to be a way to cement people in. Good on the surface but will hurt down the road. 6. If you like a NYC mentality, this is the place for you. 7. Don't kid yourself, this is a dictatorship from the top down. 8. Overall, the company used to be good, relevant and wholesome. It is now a NYC Custody bank masquerading as a relevant financial firm. Basically, they are the government bank and full of bureaucracies. If you are looking to sit in a cube, shut up, zero creativity - this is the place for you. If not, steer clear.

Pros

Opportunities for hands-on experience at all levels (partly because they are so understaffed), often more than at similar companies. Accountabilities expand on an ongoing basis, which can be good for one’s resume (but they won’t compensate you for it).

Cons

Revenue not growing so shareholder returns are coming largely from staff cuts, compensation cuts and benefit cuts. Culture has significantly degraded last few years. Policy is to rate 10 percent of employee Below Expectations and manage them out, and good managers who have built high-performing teams still have to find people to rate BE and to eliminate on a rolling basis. Think Lord of the Flies. Bad behavior among EC tolerated to a much greater degree than it used to be or is in a good company. EC has become increasingly dysfunctional in recent years, with almost everyone using their jobs as stepping stones vs. building sustainable value for the company. EC member responsible for our group badmouthed most of his own people. Long-time employees not presently valued, and most long careers there end on an ugly note. HR poorly resourced and run. Former employees should expect to spend lots of time fighting for everything they’ve earned.

Pros

Starter job, but do not stay

Cons

Still have nightmares about working at this place. The management was very racist and looked at people of color as little people. I remember the warnings that I would get from management and then literally the next week I would be in hot water for doing what they told me to do. They only started being nicer to me after deciding to lay me off at the end of the year. When it came to meetings I was never informed and then got in trouble for not knowing what was discussed. You cannot be aware of things that you are kept away from. I was consistently isolated from the team that I worked with. When it came to me dressing in nice attire, my supervisor would make disparaging comments about my clothes and my coat, I was told that I need to be in a zoo. That’s right, I had to change how I dressed to avoid bullying. Another supervisor would roll their eyes and refused to communicate with me. I would go to work with anxiety literally every day because I didn’t know what to expect. Since upper management were all best friends there was nothing I could do about how I was treated. I was targeted by a lead and two supervisors. They were all buddy buddy.
