Pros
I would recommend BRG to most new grads. My experience was largely positive, as I was lucky to have supportive managers and made great friends. Everyone at the Emervyille office is very bright! I felt that my opinions and work were valued by those I worked with. There is a clear trajectory for promotion, and it is easy to try out different types of projects, because teams are structured by projects. The pay is fairly competitive for the Bay Area and the location is very doable for those living in the city or East Bay, given there’s free parking. I would choose BRG again if I could do it over.
Cons
I would consider myself fairly lucky, as I know (and see on Glassdoor pre-2021) that the BRG experience really varies depending on what managers you work with. I would recommend new staff make an active effort to try out different teams early on and develop relationships with Junior staff who are already there. Lack of opportunities for collaboration can make BRG a lonely place to work, especially during WFH. However, prior to WFH there was a more obvious contrast in where BRG lacked in culture and perks compared to other Bay Area companies. Hours are quite variable, but this is pretty common in consulting. Since staff work on multiple projects at once (as opposed to 1 engagement), Junior staff must work to keep their own workloads in balance. I also found myself regularly lowering my expectations for firmwide leadership (in DC), as it could have been significantly more supportive than with the onset of COVID-19 and social issues.
