Pros

Near San Diego metro, nice weather and low living cost. It was good years before.

Cons

Bad management, whatever things happen, the managers/supervisors skip responsibilities and enjoy in the air condition rooms. Not many people like to stay long.

We are sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction during your time at Bachem. Your feedback has been provided to the management team. While the managers and supervisors certainly can spend more time on the shop floor, Bachem has full confidence that they are taking seriously their responsibilities and are diligently working on tasks that are not visible to their staff. Thank you for taking the time to share your opinions. We with you the best of luck with your career.

Thank you for your feedback. It is great to know that you are happy working at Bachem and you are provided with opportunities to develop professionally. We acknowledge that it is a challenge from time to time find someone you may be looking for. As Vista is a busy site, one suggestion when you are looking for someone would be to review their calendar, this will provide you an idea of their schedule and availability.

Culture clash

Pros

Opportunity. The company provides entry level opportunity to people straight from school to gain experience in the biotech industry with industry leading equipment, diverse responsibilities and saleable hard skills. Promotions. People who are identified as top performers are rewarded through compensation adjustments and promotions. With a rapidly expanding site at Vista as well as a growing product portfolio there is opportunity to rapidly advance your career. For those interested in punch a card for 8 hours there is still space for you but that white space is slowly going away. Culture change. The previous incarnations of the company were entrepreneurial and fast paced but the management focus and empirical measurement is moving towards reproducible (high standard) manufacturing. The quality of the manufacturing is currently high through personnel efforts but the next step is harmonize and organize to produce consistently over time. New site manager says the right things and is being patient in leading the horses to the water, people who want to get ahead should be visible in their efforts to improve and sell themselves well and they will be noticed. Compensation. Fair market salary with good benefits.

Cons

This ties into the positives but the culture change is causing a certain amount of a culture clash. There is a selection of employees who have a negative disposition and a destructive attitude and detrat from the positive progress that is being made. Managers either do not have tools or have not got enough data to measure the improvements and reward the high performers. This is coming, we hear plans for KPIs and metrics but they have been slow to be implemented. Those less positive members of staff are adverse to implementing metrics and are the people on here pointing fingers or being described on here pointing fingers. Without tools to measure performance the lower performers are winning because they are paid to do less than those who carry groups.
