Pros

I have been working at Bachem for almost 2 years and I will admit that when I first started the hours that we all were working was taking a toll on the departments. The amount of projects that were needed for our continued expansion dictated that so the complaints of people being burnt out and the unpredictability was hard on employees. Alot of new people graduating college was a shock to them I’d assume but a little adversity doesn’t hurt. There was a lot of complaining/concern/suggestions as the company expanded but if I were to say anything to those disenchanted I would remind them how well they performed and remind them adversity is OJT (On Job Training) that cannot be taught so they may not be giving themselves the credit they deserve and embrace those times honestly. There was management issues depending on your department and accountability was lacking that made some people very frustrated. There was also some drama with upper management and unprofessional attitudes that trickled down to subordinates. Once that happened it wasn’t surprising or unpredictable that things would spread that only divided departments unfortunately. The majority didn’t want that of course but even with that said the company IMO IS GREAT because of the cool people you get to work with. There was an accountability issue but in my opinion the positives steps taken over the last 8 months have been exciting. I hope this helps someone because we really have awesome people and a direction: 1) Promotion Opportunities: employees who are hard workers and have great attitudes do get noticed - at least from what I have noticed. Compensation is fair IMO and that includes the benefits that are amazing! I believe some employees do not take the benefits in to account and I would suggest putting the package out on the table with your supervisor/HR and thoroughly go through the package. Im sure that would help clear up any confusion. As far as being promoted when there is a promotion the email is sent out with a small background which I think is pretty cool which shows the employees experiences. 2) Training: You have the ability to attend off-site training specific for your job along with OJT training. I believe there’s not enough questions being asked by those employees or their management isn’t relaying what is available? Different careers have different abilities that will benefit the company but training is very much authorized. What’s important is they absolutely encourage this which is great for anyone’s career but instead of a employee expecting anyone to tell you what school you are going to, I would suggest a meeting/summary explaining why you worth the investment? 3)Benefits: The current package we have here is amazing. You pay basically a small fee of the actual cost and choose between HMO/PPO and I believe some comments that say it’s just “okay benefits” are employees who are not taking into account what Bachem pays for the employee/family overall so maybe that can be cleared when a new employee is awarded an offer letter to make clear? That seems like an easy fix that would help answer any questions even though HR explained it well enough. Maybe lack of experience in the work force is the reason for the negative comments. 4) Compensation: Bachem last year did a review of the biotech industry and they identified that they could make improvements from my understanding. They took care of the monetary issue for those employees and there was very positive reviews from employees during that time. That’s a honest gesture that was addressed. Kudos. 5) The Amazing People Here: Every company has a few bad apples so one must take in to account the “chaos” some felt over the last couple years with everyone having some kind of adversity they had to deal with professionally. But personally I got to really know some of these people and consider them great friends. time. If those adverse situations happen again I truly believe we will operate/perform better because the people here are truly amazing, good natured, professional and genuine. Currently we still have people in the rut who tend to bring the moral down at times but hopefully they snap out of it. I also think that some of them who complain just don’t know how to communicate how they are feeling and it could be just they want to be successful and understand they have a career. The SLT is drastically better over the last 8 months and there has been positive steps in improving moral, team building which we hope to turn in to Unity! Maybe it’s not cool to say this but I absolutely enjoy coming to work here while learning from these people and personally I try to make it better for everyone. A lot of them have helped me with my career here. I hope everyone enjoys it here sooner rather than later – we do important work and maybe if we can build on the unity perhaps that will be a person’s focus.

Cons

- Attitudes: The company overall has gotten way better in regards to some just always complaining. Though we still have some "sour apples" I believe we are still very early in a series of drastic changes we needed. The Site Manager has had great communication with everyone, allows us to give feed back so I believe it will get better. - Employees Comparing Salaries: I think the issue is someone shared what their salary is or people have found out so they told others… This is never a good idea because people hold resentment towards people when it isn’t anyone’s business. I believe this is an issue with younger employees that don’t truly understand what they are doing and how that can really impact your career – not to mention how unethical it is. This is an odd one that has become an issue for some but it should go without saying that there should be very little people who know that information about you.

Thank you for your positive feedback. In 2018, Bachem made a significant investment of time and money to provide our managers with training to provide them with the skills needed to develop themselves into great leaders. This effort is continuing in 2019, with Bachem continuing the managers training program and expanding the program to include all levels of the organization. Not only does Bachem intend to develop great managers, we also intend to develop great employees! In addition to the training program, we are working to further develop teamwork by way of team building events and also with efforts outside of the workplace with community service events planned throughout the year. It is our intention to create opportunities for our employees to grow as the company continues to grow. Thank you for sharing your positive experience at Bachem.
