Pros

The work is fun and super fast paced. Typically you're working on multiple programs. It's great experience for furthering your career elsewhere. The individual people are pretty cool. It's a good stepping stone for your career and a good place to make connections.

Cons

The government continually gaslighting them with contracts ends with a feast or famine mentality with workload. The company refuses to become more progressive with pay and benefits, continually saying that they've surveyed the industry, and they're still competitive. They always reference the culture, but with hiring of influential people from big aerospace, the culture has morphed into something nebulous and toxic. As a junior level engineer, the only way to get ahead there is to find another job and hope they'll match the pay.

Pros

You get to work on some of the most exciting projects in the industry, have excellent job security (to a fault) and enjoy a flexible work schedule. You have some flexibility to work remotely depending on the role. Good benefits, including low-cost health insurance, and a pension (vested after 5 years, for employees who started in 2021 or earlier)

Cons

Six months ago, I would have had no reservations to writing a five-star review. Engineering has hired many unqualified and/or unmotivated engineers and some have found themselves 'babysitting' employees who are paid a lot more than they are. Some of the best talent I have worked with in my career has resigned or retired in the last six months. Management is slow to promote or recognize the top performers. Many who have worked at Ball for several years could make a lot more money at other companies. Some programs were grossly underbid and engineering is being punished for it, by being told to do more with less. Despite record profits, annual merit increases averaged 3%. When factoring in inflation, most employees effectively received a pay cut.

Great People, Lackluster Leadership

Pros

There are a lot of really smart, really caring people you get to work with and the SBU leadership is always supportive. There are always a lot of mind-stimulating challenges to be found and a lot of work diversity that keeps the job from being mundane. One of the best security teams I've worked with.

Cons

Security leadership is lackluster and is headed in a direction that stifles creativity, professional growth, and diversity. Hiring practices for leadership and lead roles are nepotistic with disregard for ability to perform basic job functions.
