A tough barrier to entry

Pros

Nice managers, job stability and annual pay raises.

Cons

The environment was not receptive to new employees or fresh ideas. People worked in silos and had no interest in branching out or growing. The processes and systems were out of date and worked poorly. I never felt that I had challenging work. This is a very bad company for a recent college grad looking to learn and grow.

Pros

Very smart working level individuals and those who truly want to make a difference

Cons

The epitome of cronyism in nearly all management and leadership position. Many engineers and leads in the Defense area have homesteaded and created a false sense of competency by hiding behind the "CLASSIFIED" caveat. Most of the VPs are truly trying to lead by example but have fallen prey to the idea that they put individuals in charge of programs and projects merely because they know the person rather than ferreting out the most qualified to lead. Management continually takes the best workers away from successful programs to remedy the bad decisions in programs that are either falling behind or there is a huge lack of forward progress.

Ball is rolling downhill

Pros

Smart people, amazing programs, good benefits, flexible hours, mostly reasonable stress levels.

Cons

Hard to make career progress (especially for women), poor performers are not dealt with, good people end up leaving. Lost many major proposals in recent years. Management structure too top heavy / high overhead costs. HR doesn't help you with anything, they turn problems back on to the people who report them. Giant gap between good leaders and poor ones, and if you have a poor one, your career will go nowhere even if you work extremely hard and implement projects that save time/money.
