Pros

Dynamic place to work for.

Cons

Very few people are promoted from whithin. You can be an assistant manager (RBM) for years, and never be promoted to manager. Incentive pay is almost a joke. (a Relationship Banker can get paid on a loan, 12 months after the loan was closed). And incentive is capped. When the new owner came on board, the CEO, Mr. Kanas has promised a great incentive plan with no caps. a few months later, he changed the incentive plan with caps on loans. After another 6 months, the bank changed again the incentive plan, not for the better. Bottom line: the incentive plan is horrible. It does not motivate an RB to excell. Considering that the base pay is not great either, I believe there are better options on the market besides BankUnited.

Pros

As a recently hired manager, I have found the atmosphere to be extremely positive primarily due to the leadership of John Kanas, Chairman and CEO. The ability to influence and collaborate appear to be better than most similarly sized organizations.

Cons

Control of decisions is vested in too few individuals. The management team from NY consists or primarily two individuals that control decision making (and others that have relocated in other senior level positions). Hopefully, as these individuals place trust in other legacy or newly hired leaders, this will change.

Pros

BankUnited is a small community bank which if you like to know your customers, then they are the place to work. The employees at BankUnited are not just co-workers, they are a family. When one needs help with work or something personal they help just like families do. Management at BankUnited does care about their employees for example having a young child and dealing with sick time because your child they have been very understanding most of the time.

Cons

One of the downsides are Bankunited is a small community bank so they do not have a large staff. They are fully staffed but that still isn't enough for unexpected time off or more than one person in an office to be out the same day. Not more than one person can be out of the office at once because there wouldn't be enough coverage at the branch.
