Pros

If you like a challenge then BW is a place for you. IT (specifically operations) is run very lean, this can be a good and bad thing, good in that you get a hand on everything you want to, bad in that you can never really finish anything you started. You have to be self directed especially if remote. But don't worry you'll find that there is plenty to do, and boy will there be lots of fires. Expect to start the day picking up a few tickets and then something goes down which will take your day out. Then the next minute wonder where the week went! and all your projects fall behind! Again not a bad thing if you're into that. Leadership is a mixed bag. In my time I found pockets and some great leaders. People who work here for the most part are great but very overworked and most of them do not even know it. Reasonable 401k match

Cons

Culture was very strong when i started, they really did push the 'everybody matters' culture and for the most part it was well received, that was back in 2015. In 2022 the company was pretty much like any other in corporate America. The culture is still there is pockets but nothing like what it was. Please if you are looking to work at BW do not do it for the culture as of writing you will be disappointed. Leadership... In IT at the Director/SLT level there is definitely a 'good ol' boys club' mentality going on. Sadly this really erodes trust within the whole department. The same old boys get random promotions. Like Director to Global Director to Snr Global Director. But the role never changes, nor do any additions in staff get made at the lower levels. Its not terrible but it has caused a lot of folks to leave the company over the past 3 years. Above that at the CEO level its not all bad, Bob is trying to leave a legacy, his son Kyle recently took the reins and has a much more business mind set, this has certainly reflected in the culture. They did really well during COVID pandemic but this was never paid forward to the associates. Medical plan benefits are very expensive compared to most companies. They do other a cheaper alternative but the deductible is insane. Compensation can be on the low side. They do pay but getting them to is like drawing blood from a stone.

Not what is advertised

Pros

Many very long term employees and leaders who know the industry. Business outlook is OK - currently riding the wave of the pandemic.

Cons

The culture as advertised and marketed sounds great ... but reality is it's not any different than other large organizations now. As the CEO, Mr Chapman, has transitioned leadership to his son and others, the culture and message permeating throughout the organization has completely shifted. Its' no longer the message of fulfillment and trust to build a vibrant organization with great people, but rather a just do as your told and don't make decisions mantra. It's simply a sad turn. The old guard is being replaced by typical large organization types (see GE) who focus solely on being in charge and fulling their own careers and egos. It is quickly losing the culture which was developed over many years. Now it's just a marketing tactic to sell speaking engagements and attract people externally. The front line team members certainly don't feel like they matter any more.

Not Part of the Club

Pros

I liked my work well enough.

Cons

There's a definite good ol' boys mentality. If you're not part of the club, you're not going anywhere.
