Pros

Working for Bealls you get to live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country, and your peers are kind & genuine people.

Cons

Cannot trust anyone in HR, or Management. The company is stuck in the mentality of the 1980s. Diversity and inclusion are non-existent. There is only 1 executive that is NOT a straight white male. The pay is HORRIBLE, and the employee structure is so lean that employees are pulled in 1,000 different directions. Expectations from management are unrealistic, and company systems are outdated, antiquated and cause more problems than they solve. Direction from management seems to change daily. If you do not bow down and do as you are told, you are put on the back burner and passed over for promotions and raises. They just want mindless robots who do as they are told and never question the status quo. Benefits are a joke, the 401k match is the worst I have ever seen in the industry. Health benefits are terrible and very costly. PTO is also some of the lowest I have ever seen in the industry. Dress code is old and outdated like everything else. Denim is only allowed on Fridays yet the company claims to be a fashion retailer!? Makes no sense at all. The employee turnover rate is unbelievably high for a small private company. The executive team would rather spend more money hiring and training new talent than every rewarding loyalty and building bench strength. The business cannot progress forward because of the toxic work culture that drives out good talent. The company is only able to recruit management that has been fired from other retailers. Salaries for the same positions are all over the board sometimes spanning 3 pay scales. Very low and insulting expense budget for Buyers when traveling, the amount per day in NYC and LA means you are eating fast food and that’s it.

Pros

The area is beautiful. There's opportunity for training and career advancement.

Cons

I would describe the culture at Bealls as traditional, anti-technology, racist, homophobic and misogynistic. Management has told me to "never say no", "just do your job" and "smile more". The response to COVID-19 was shameful. All employees suffered from either layoffs or pay cuts, whichever was cheaper. Corporate employees were forced to work in the office despite positive COVID-19 cases reported week after week. The company does not care about any social justice issues, the community or giving back. The dress code is strict for a fashion company and even prohibits cross dressing. Turnover is always through the roof, so you will likely have to cover open positions for months to years with no pay recognition. I think all of these issues stem from poor management and a lack of trust throughout the organization.

Pros

regular(ish) hours-- that's if you don't become a martyr like most employees who stay after-hours and work on weekends to try to save a severely sinking ship...

Cons

Extremely high turnover, would love to know if HR and executives will ever address this... it's been going on for years. Are you training people poorly? bad pay? unpleasant working environment? no lack of advancement? ALL OF THE ABOVE... mixed in with a touch of fraternization and sexual harassment from management... you really have a stellar place to work.
