1. It has an appearance of being a family friendly company and at one time it was. It is changing to be a very ruthless company when it comes to their employees in the stores. Upper management is very you give us everything and we give you little. They have taken away Christmas Bonuses, 401K matching, insurance has gone up but have been very very very little.
2. No matter what they tell you at your interview there is NOT that much room for moving up especially if you are hired as a sales associate. If you are lucky you will only sit in a position for two to three years before moving to the next. Also once you hit store manager that is pretty much it for your Bealls Manager career. It is VERY RARE to get moved beyond that. These days they hire outside the company exclusively for these upper management positions.
3. As a manager you are expected to be on call at all times. You are hired at an agreement of 45 hours. Most likely it will be more like 55. There is one member of upper management that would make the comment "Oh I see we are working banker hours today" if you actually tried to leave on time. If they feel the store is subpar, there will be an expectation of working with no days off. Good luck taking vacation times.....
4. They are very disorganized and have poor communication. You will get one directive to do
something and just as you finished it they will have change their mind. Guess who gets to do it over again. They also like to iniate new programs but not completely with thought on how it will work out for all the stores. Oh and they LOVE their emails. You will get tons and tons throughout the day. You should be on the sales floor making sales but instead you are glued to a computer answering emails.
