Good job, not-so-great atmosphere.

Pros

Good benefits package, great hard-working people, opportunities for advancement.

Cons

When sales are down, it's a very negative atmosphere. Also, not a lot of vacation time is offered and there is a high turnover rate for employees (especially good ones).

Pros

Average compensation levels and benefits package

Cons

Severely under capitalized. Intensely micromanaged. Inner circle of top management rules with iron fist approach, but unfortunately have little to no experience or understanding of front-line development, construction, marketing or sales matters. As such there is no capacity for local/regional variations in market dynamics nor ability to recognize the interplay of science and art of business decisions inherent in development. Employee opinions and ideas are viewed with distrust and hostility creating an atmosphere where loyalty and commitment do not grow and flourish. Severe absence of diversity in gender, experience, background and critical thinking. Little opportunity for advancement for other than for finance/accounting/auditing backgrounds. Feels more like a bank than a home building company. Accountability and team work is in short supply. Having someone to blame if later the CEO or CFO disapprove seems to be a primary objective of middle management - more than 18 of which report directly to CEO amazingly. 60-70 hour weeks are the norm. Don't expect superiors to be knowledgeable.

Pros

Friendly work environment, good vendors, a great place to work for the builder. Vendors paid on time as to not slow down production.

Cons

There were too many Monday morning meetings with all field production teams. Service calls were divided between the warranty team but sometimes management would change the warranty rep who was handling their situation and the home owner would have to call the main office to find out who was now handling their issues.
