Pros

Employee discount stacked with coupons. Decent samples at cosmetic counters.

Cons

Horrible management at Cullman, AL store. They will work you to your breaking point and not care at all for your well-being. A girl in my department got fired because she missed work due to a car crash (her car was totaled). I got written up for leaving work to go to immediate care and the ER in 2 separate occasions, even though I had personal time to use and cleared it with management first. My manager dug it up 3 months later when she was in one of her power-trip moods and decided she needed to punish me for being ill. You can be there every day and be 100% reliable but as soon as you’re legitimately sick or LIFE HAPPENS, they will throw you under the bus because you can’t make your shift. They simply DO NOT CARE about their employees. Oh and they’ll give you a raise then cut your hours back to where you’re making LESS than you were before you got your pay increase .... to give you the illusion you earned something. But in reality they were just screwing you over by cutting your hours. If you were lucky enough to get time off approved, they’d try to make you work last minute and not put your PTO on the schedule, then when you tell them you took off those days, THEY WOULD TRY TO MAKE YOU GET SOMEONE TO COVER THOSE DAYS THEY INCORRECTLY SCHEDULED! Management will Absolutely take advantage of hard working employees and give them no opportunity for advancement, all because they don’t feel like training a new person... and sadly... if you’re good at something, they’ll just keep piling on more stuff for you to do then get mad when you can’t do everything. But turn a blind eye to lazy employees just because they can get credit applications. OH YEAH... They will absolutely harass you for credit apps, and management will let employees give sketchy 20% off discounts (sometimes more) on an entire purchase with NO exclusions if that means coaxing a customer to apply for a credit card. The entire place is a hot mess. Do not waste your time.

Pros

Fair pay, easy work, pretty accommodating with hours, good position for a high school or college student

Cons

Management was worried about everything but associates and customers. I worked for Belk on two separate occasions. The first time was in 2016 and most of the managers were very organized and helpful. I worked for the same Belk again in 2020 and some of the managers I had previously worked with left. It was a mess - the managers (old and new) hardly ever answered their phones so as an associate you were forced to make a decision that was above your pay grade or keep customers in line waiting, for who knows how long, trying to get a hold of manager

Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed working with my co-workers. Pay is good compared to other retail dept stores

Cons

Management can be political depending on your store. Overall, good experience for a summer job or someone looking for a part-time gig.
