Pros

It provides you an incentive to look for another line of work.

Cons

The company is doing everything in its power to drive profits off of the backs of the employees. Low pay, Micro management of your hours and the like. They have abandoned the idea of a professional staff and quality products. Every year for the last 5 years new policies has been implemented annually to reduce the compensation and increase work load. In a word it's Greed. Shame on the Belk family. John and Tom Belk would sickened to see what as become of Belk.

Pros

Vacations, personal days, decent benefits. They give you a big discount on the merchandise, when combined with stuff that is on clearance you can get a really good deal.

Cons

It's like working in the Mafia, everyone is out to stab you in the back. They tell you that want you to whip your associates into shape and make them preform better but they don't allow you to discipline then either. You can't give raises to your good employees without them meeting ridiculous pre-determined goals that are basically unobtainable for the smaller stores. They want you to stay and work past your shift to get stuff done all the time (if your salary you will live in your store). The pay is terrible, the management has no clue what is really going on in the stores and live in a fairy land.

Belk is a rip off

Pros

The people you work with are usually nice.

Cons

Cashiers are on a pay for performance hourly rate. If you don't meet your sales goals for the year, your pay can get reduced. They expect you to work all hours of the day and almost every holiday. When you finally get off for a holiday, you still have to be there the next day at the crack of dawn.
