Pros

I loved working with people. It was fairly flexible, which is great since I'm currently in college. I enjoyed my job.

Cons

My manager was a nice person outside of the workplace but she could really be awful and insensitive in the workplace. She generalized people and, even if she didn't mean to, could come off nasty and mean. I think she did mean to, though. She would give us impossible tasks and would be upset if they were not performed properly. She played favorites, which was obvious in the scheduling of employees. Like I said, I liked her as a person but not as a manager. She made my time there less satisfying. Also, you are supposed to be paid on a sliding scale according to sales. I was paid minimum wage the entire time I worked there, despite having one of the best sales records in the store. Very dissapointing. I left because it was too much work for what I was getting paid. Impossible credit goals in hard economic times is another big con. But despite all this, I did enjoy my job.

Pros

The discount is the only reason to work at Belk. Even that is not worth it. They pay so little I barely even got to take advantage of it.

Cons

They make you work like a slave and you get no recognition for it. They base your pay off of how much you sell per hour, but they expect you to: get 2 credit apps per week, reorganize the floor every other day, process stock, inventory, dust, vacuum, set the sale, process markdown, and process damages just to name a few!! They never inform you of new information (sale sets, coupons, etc) but get mad when you didn't know. The people who don't do what is asked of them get paid more. The people who stalk the customers and lie to the customers get paid more than those who are working their butts off. I was the only one in my department who got things done, such as markdowns, sale set, stock, yes I got paid a measly 7.50 an hour. After quitting, I found out that the other associates who just stood around doing nothing got paid 3 and 4 dollars more than me!!!!! I worked there for 3 years and got one measly raise. I never experienced a pay cut but a lot of my former co workers did. RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!

Pros

Great management with flexible schedules. Awesome discounts always and a special time of the year we received a large discount.

Cons

This would not be a job for someone who does not like to work nights or weekends - it also involves standing on your feet.
