Pros

A lot of "free" product in cosmetics department. A good employee discount.

Cons

The managers are rude, they push credits, credits, credits, even when no one wants a Belk credit or already has one. They make the sales goals completely unattainable, then schedule so many people to work at a time that they cannot possibly make the goals. The scheduling is a joke and my schedule changes every few days, so I can't actually plan anything without it interfering with work. The managers are completely incompetent and do not treat the employees with any respect. Belk is a very unorganized company and makes it impossible to have any positive relations with its employees. Every other employee I work with is looking to leave even after being employed there for over 10 years. I didn't take the advice of others when I read this page and took the job anyway. Don't do it! Stay away from this company altogether. It is a joke and it will ruin your life the entire time you are employed there.

Pros

nice management staff, the discount is great!!!!!!

Cons

The pay for performance is a horrible way to base evaluations. I think it is so unfair to give people a raise when all they do all day for an eight hour shift is stand behind the register. while the others who do everything in there dept. get nothing. Why should we even try. I am at the point now where I have been to my manager and told her what is going on out on the sales floor, but there is not much she can do, so I think I should just stop caring as much because it gets me nowhere in this company. My parents raised me to work hard and earn my money. I think Belk needs to open up its eyes and look around or maybe get on this website and read how many people are not happy with this company. The work load I do not have a problem with that is part of the job. The problem I have is when you soley base my raise on how much I was supposed to sale, that is morally wrong.
